The hard-to-see switch - that turns it off when the lid is closed - gets dirty and sticks. I'm sure the sticking switch is the reason for such erratic operation. Find it and push the plunger up and down many times - then, call FF.

On the simple FF the little plunger switch can only be felt with the fingers ( its basically on the roof). Mine bent and they sent me a new one. I can not recall if you must be on the roof to replace/repair.

This company IS 'fantastic' to work with! They sent us a schematic to turn our "out only" fan into an " in and out". Also sent a replacement wall control unit free.

I have a Fantastic Fan in my 5th wheel bedroom and it has been giving me trouble. Last season it quit working altogether and I tried to shoot the wires to see where the problem was - turned up inconclusive and I was thinking it was the motor. However when we took the rig out this month it started working again - had it open and in the "on" postition and it started a short time later on it's own. However it later quit, did the same thing several days later then quit again and has not worked since. I was leaning towards the switch that shuts it off when you close the cover, but am now thinking it may be a humidity sensor or something.

Has anyone else had a similar problem or have recommendations?

Take a 7/16" open end wrench up on the roof, have the vent open. Tighten the nut around the plunger switch. That should cure it. It did on ours.

We had 2 FF fans w/rain sensors in our previous rig and again in this one. We had lots of problems and though I agree that FF is great troubleshooting problems and sending replacement parts, I finally decided that I'd rather have a product that doesn't need so much hands on attention. So I had the FF yanked out and replaced with the Shurflo platinum fans. After a year, I'm pleased to report that I have good fans w/rain sensors, totally variable speeds in or out even with the vent closed if I wish, and I no longer have to call a customer service department. That really makes me happy and to quote an earlier post, to me "that defines AWESOME."

Failed parts with good replacement policies doesn't normally equal such rave reviews as FF gets. For example, GY tire seems to always stand behind its tires when there is a non road hazard failure and GY, as far as I know, always stands behind its product and pays for any damage done to a rig due to their tire failure. Yet, GY failure related posts, despite the fact that they stand behind their product, are almost always uniformly negative. Maybe FF should work on getting it done right the first time?
Sounds like faulty installation which Fantastic Vent (the actual company name) doesn't warranty, but they will still help you troubleshoot.
We've had nothing but FF's on our RV's and have only had trouble with one and it took a 7/16" wrench and 10 min. to fix.
