I am not sure how a dog in a kennel in a TT would be much different.
I would have to agree with canoe on top.
Our friends traveled a long time with their dog in a kennel in their trailer; all the dog did was bark as soon as he started the engine.
My last dog rode in the back of my open pickup for years and loved every mile of it.
So we can add Dog Wispier to your Resume?
Myself I would not put my dog in my trailer going down the road but then I would not put my kids back there either. And there are plenty here that don’t see anything wrong with that so go figure.
Dogs are pack animals and you are their pack like it or not. Remember your dog does not understand what is going on and to lock him/her in a kennel by it’s self in a trailer going down the road is just plain stupid. JMO

Way too true...all of this. My dogs, however, are none of the above. They are household pets. My dogs are the reason I pull with an SUV. If I didn't have dogs, I'd probably be in a pickup with a fiver.

Well, Rubiranch I agree with you on a lot of things, but...... Two weeks ago I saw one fly out of the back of a pickup into the side view mirror of an oncoming car. Lived, but broke two legs. I cringe everytime I see a dog in the back of a pickup...and I see a lot. Same State, different world, I guess. Don't make either one of us wrong.
I wouldn't put him in the TT. He may get scared and you know what throughout the TT, which is something I wouldn't want him to do considering you just got a new one!

I would not put dog in trailer....I would think the backseat is big enough for both the baby and the dog. Any other stuff you put in the back seat could be put in a covered container and put in the bed of the truck. Or else put the dog in a dog kennel or see if somebody can watch him while you are gone. We take a long trip every year and my husband bought a couple large rubbermaid type containers and that's where we put our bags and stuff so they don't get wet in the event of rain. Good luck.
Buy a cap for the truck. There's going to be enough changes for the dog with out putting him in a hot trailer. If you are still considering it let your wife drive and you ride in the trailer for 30 min. if its ok for you go for it but don't crate him in case there is an accident. Good Luck
Check out one of these mounted (bolted) to the bed of the truck behind the cab. It is safer than having them walking around in the covered bed of the truck. Keeps them from flying around if you have to stop quickly or are in a collision. Put his bedding in it and he will probably sleep most of the time. They have insulated covers for them for the colder weather and are well ventilated when driving. Naturally you don't let them bake in the sun when you are stopped for a long time in high temps.
If you have a hard sided kennel and he is comfortable in it: there are quite a few covers made for kennels - that will keep him from wind and safely contained. They come in all kinds of options, zippered sides, teathered sides, etc. This will keep the hot sun off as well. Plus he won't fall over the sides of the truck. Plus, you can tie it down to the truck bed and it will be secure. You can find these covers at any sporting goods store, Walmart, KMart, etc.

i travel with 2, sometimes 3 small dogs and they do ride in the truck with me-but-
if i needed to i would have no problem putting em in crates in the TT(carry crates for both) granted some common scense is needed here-have em as far forward as possible and some sort of ventliation. people and govt officals transport both domesticated and wild animals of all sorts in trailers all the time and my TT is a heck of a lot better than some i've seen prople use.
this i don't really understand
pdvandusen wrote: I would NEVER put my dog in a any towed vehicle. It's too dangerous. You may need to either get a bigger TV or put a cap on the truck.
only 2 things i can think of-no ventilation(see above) or having an accident. most TT's i've seen in an accident, the TV wasn't in much better shape than the TT was so it really wouldn't matter where they were.
am i missing something here somewhere??

I'm about 75% this reply is tongue in cheek, but it is very indicative of people forgetting that dogs while a significant part of the family are just pets so the answers you're likely to get are going to be quite skewed.
The only downfall I can think of about putting the dog in the trailer is that dogs sometimes get motion sick and he might puke all over the inside of your camper. If that doesn't apply to your dog, let him ride in the trailer.
Why would you consider this a tongue and cheek reply? They have a 3 yr old and soon a newborn back there. I would think that an adult would prefer to be with the newborn in the back in case the baby needed her. I am not putting they're dog above her in this scenario. Either you don't have any kids or its been a long long time since you've been around a newborn. Think about it.
