Unfortunately, some people just have no respect for others personal space or property. You wouldn't walk through other peoples hotel rooms to get to a balcony, yet some people think that it is perfectly OK to walk through others campsites. A majority of people are very nice and respectful when camping, but obviously a minority believe that life is all about themselves and obviously the parents are setting a real good example for their children. Picking on a defenseless animal is inexcuseable. You definitely did the right thing.

Obviously THEY were rude and caused others to complain against them. Does the COE keep records of such people and not allow them to camp at any of their parks again?
I agree with most, if I could have resisted the urge to kill them for kicking my dog, I would have called the park rangers and had them kicked out. These delinquents are part of the "me" generation, and the "me" generation was not taught to have any respect for "you" or "yours".
The COE does have a way of flagging names of troublemakers in their computer system, but if these people let someone else rent the site or make the reservation, no one will know they are back unless they return to the same park and the gatekeepers or park rangers recognize them from previous encounters.

In your post you said they were walking through your site to get to the lake. How much out of the way would they have to go to go around your campsite? We frequent a campground at a lake and it would be almost a half mile extra if we had to go around peoples' campsites to get to the lake/moored boat. Most just walk along the edge of campsites and say excuse me.
I am not sticking up for these people because they showed their true colors by kicking the dog and messing with your stuff. Just wanted to point out there are some things we need to consider.

we set up our barriers to keep people out of our "living room" when we camp a new campground and end up with the main path heading to the beach or lake Most people will excuse themselves and stay "on the fence" between 2 sites. No problem with that.
When we do encounter "untrained campers", we hang low clothes lines, talk to kids, talk to parents, then take it to the host/ranger. When we stop the kids and make the request, most will steer clear.
Though your situation, it may have been easier to call their probation officers(haha)...you know they probably had one. Animal abuse is a huge red flag for abused/antisocial children.

We are currently staying at a State Park in East Texas. We had a family that "moved" in. They had 4 kids from 7 to 14 and 4 or 5 dogs. I am not talking about little dogs I am talking about "rot" size dogs. There had been some complaints about the family and when it came time to extend their stay, the park manager would not let them extend.

Yanno, in my mispent youth I broke bones for less. Old ways are easy to visit sometimes. Hopefully I'd have just pressed charges.
I don't get lost, I investigate alternative destinations.
See a guy in the campground with a telescope, that may be me.

No matter the distance it doesnt matter. Thats why folk reserve specific sites. If permission is given to pass through your site ( which we have done on some occasssions) then thats fine but to just walk through it nonsense. We will often not go to a CG if we CANT get a waterfront site.
