Michigan has a new program this year. You can store your RV for up to two weeks at a state park campground for free. They are trying to entice people to camp multiple times up north without hauling your unit back and forth.
Has anyone tried it? Problems? Successes? We are looking at leaving our fifth wheel at Straits for two weeks.
Libility would be the biggest. You can't find any one from DNR now, what do you think is going to happen to your rig just sitting there. I see people getting rid of there old junk by parking it and leaving it. I can see it now State has to increase fees to remove abandon RV's left at State Parks. That idea is right up there with the millions of dollar spent to build their pocket parks several years ago at Escanaba and in the Detroit area.

I think it's something that would work for a few people, but only those few that want to make several short trips to the same location over a two week period. Most people want to stay the whole time, or move on to other locales. It's also a good indicator of just how empty the state campgrounds have been. If Michigan is trying to entice people back to the state park campgrounds, they might consider cutting back on some of the charges that they have added or increased lately. That's the cause of most of the complaints that I hear.

$24.95/night for W/E, $33.95/night foe W/E/S, plus an $8.00 reservation fee plus the daily permit ($6.00/day) or annual pass ($24.00)...very high to start with but, in my opinion, discourages many non-residents to avoid state parks...
