OK I've decided to stop fretting that for every 9 miles I drive I am burning $4.00 for that gallon burned.
Instead I am going to refer to my trailering costs by the hour. So from now on my trailering now costs me $26.67 per hour at 60 mph.
Sounds a lot cheaper to me!! From now won it costs me $26.67 an hour to go from A to B. I like it already. Where else can you get that kind of shipping cost?
Chevy 1/2 Ton Crew Z71 / 3.73 / 5.3L
Rockwood 8317 SS (Yes, it's a 1/2 ton pulling it)
Reese WD System with HP Dual Cam
Primus Brake Controller
Factory Receiver Hitch
McKesh Mirrors

Railroads use ton/miles per unit of fuel. They get good mileage that way.

I look at it another way. If I spend five nights on the road that $500.00 dollars saved on average hotel stay being $100.00. Now how far can I go on $500.00 knowing $500.00 dollars of fuel relates to about 1000 miles of driving.
On edit: My wife says we only need to go 400 miles, and she's using the saving for a new pair of shoes, I think she needs a Tricked out Name badge.

Just figure a happy time weekend or vacation or whatever. Let's see TT payment plus TV payment plus insurance cost for each, plus all the extra food for the trip, plus whatever else you need to pick up at Wally World, plus your fuel, plus your camping spot. I'm having fun already

I like your way of thinking!
I'm all for massaging the numbers so it doesn't hurt as much too.
But no matter how we mix the numbers up it still looks like this...

And I am going to RV until I burn everyone of those dollars in the bank and/or the bank collapses which ever comes first!

Another way to look at it, at 9mpg and $4/gal. you spend just $0.44 per mile to tow your trailer.
Yet another way; how does that $26.67/hour compare to your salary? Now there's a scary thought.

By using your method, it will be very easy to increase your gas mileage. Stop for 10 to 20 minutes every hours and that would drive your cost per hour down. Stop for 30 minutes every hour and you have cut your costs in half.

I used to dread the bathroom stops for the kids every half hour, now I look forward to it reduce my cost per hour.
