Next week will be the first week I'll have had to use my tote...what is the best "practice" for emptying it? Do you hook it up to your hose and then pick it up and dump it...do you even consider using it for the black tank...do you clean it out afterwards...etc, etc.?? Any insight would be appreciated...staying for two weeks with no sewer hookup (reservations were made before we even had a camper, and then on top of that decided to stay for two).
I only use mine for grey water but here is the procedure I use. Hook tank to TT waste tank and empty grey water very slow to be sure I dont overflow the tank. Then I hook tank to my TV and drive it to the dump area. I think hook my portable sewer host to tank and slowly lift it up until empty. If I will be dumping again I wont rinse it out. On my last dump I will rinse it very well with the hose.

When using my tote to empty the black tank I never wait till the black tank is full.
My black tank is 25 gallons and the tote will only hold 15.
So I empty when my level indicator reads 2/3 and I still get nervous about over flowing the tote.
emptying the tote is the easy part, just drag it to the dump station, hook up the hose, place the hose in the hole, I step on the hose to make shure it dosent fly out while I am lifting the tote.
After I am done transfering the black tank I will repeat the procedure with the grey to help rinse out the tote.
Once the tote is used for the last time I will rinse it out good and get it ready for storage.
I have no problems using the tote for transfering the contents of the black tank.
After its all done and ready to store for the trip home I push down on the tote and close the lids to allow room for expansion.
That way there is less chance of the odor getting into my storage compartment.

I've never dumped black water with my tote tank, but there is no reason you couldn't, just have to be a bit more careful as the price you pay for spilling some on yourself is a bit higher... However, most folks could easily go a week or two on a black tank so it's generally a non issue. I use a small (7 gallon) tote tank I can pick up easily, and can empty it in any toilet or a dump station if needed. I drain from the trailer to the tank using a garden hose (my sewer cap has a garden hose fitting, this would not work with the black tank though), and can either use a hose or just pour it out directly if going into a toilet or waste basin. If disposing at a dump station, then certainly use a hose, treat it like any waste water holding tank. I don't bother rinsing my tank out until I get back home, as long as the cap is on there is no odors.
Use mine for gray and black. I just lift the end opposite the large opening and let it drain & when I can get no more out of it I lift it up and finish pouring out the remains then rinse it out with water and empty again. Close it up and no odors. If you have to dump both tanks do the black first.

Same as cenley. Depending on the size of your black tank, the number of people staying in your unit and how stingy you are with the water you may get by without having to dump your black water. General rule in our clan is the TT toilet is for #1; if you need to take care of #2 go to the CG restrooms unless it is raining cats & dogs or it is an emergency.
We us our blue tank all the time for black and gray water. The one sure way to control the transfer of fluid into the blue tank is by using a macerator pump. We have a portable one that hooks to the 3" sewer line of the RV and to the 12v system. You don't have to worry about it over flowing as you control it.
