I don't even bother trying to swipe my card. I go inside and leave my CC as collateral. I don't see the big issue about going inside to pay. Are the lines at the cash register too long? Are you tempted to buy some junk food/snacks? If I've been driving for several hours I need the time to stretch my legs, check around the coach for any non-normal occurrences like road tar on the wheelwells, the trailer hitch securly attached, etc. I can't see swiping several times, pumping several $75 sessions, then jumping back in the coach for another five or six hours of driving.

That's why I have 10 credit cards. They just keep sending me the invitations and I can't seem to say no.

On a similar note- Pilot stations require a zipcode entry at the pump- none I've tried in western PA, eastern Ohio will recognize my zipcode- I live less than 100 miles away.

The zipcode you enter has to match the one on your billing address for that card.

Using a CC multiple times like this throws up a big fraud red flag at the bank. First time I used my Pentagon Fed CU CC (5% rebate on fuel purchases, nolimit)It got refused after the 3rd swipe. I called the bank after I got home and they made a note I had an RV and I have no probs since.

I even went inside to leave the CC but it would only allow two $200 purchases at a time...then I had to settle up. I then pumped a third time and it stopped at $35.00. So, $435 filled her up!
I stopped at a Pilot station near Cincinnati today and they didn't have Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel at the truck pumps. They said they had it at the front car pumps but I couldn't fit there so I left. I thought EVERY station in the US was required to have ALL ULSD fuel.
So, I finally found ULSD at a Marathon station on hwy 50 for $4.55 a gallon.

Next time, depending on which way you are traveling, stop at the FJ just south in Walton, KY and use the truck pumps. It will pump fuel as long as you wish

Last trip we tried our new AAA Visa gas rebate card. After two swipes at the pump it refused a third. Went inside and got the final $350 at the counter. When we got the rebate they did not cover the payment inside. After calling Visa they said a special code is put on the transaction at the pump and they would not honor the $350.

I had my credit card shut down after three swipes at the pump. What gave me a chuckle was it was a Good Sam credit card. Took me a while to convince the person on the phone that buying 60 gallons of fuel at one stop was not unusual. And in fact most people who would have the Good Sam card would very likely be buying larger than normal quantities of fuel at one stop as they have RV's.... I do appreciate the fraud protection on the cards however. I have been called three times in the last couple of years by the CC company to go over charges that raised a flag. One was legit, but twice there were over $500 in fraudulant charges.

I've learned traveling with this credit card thing, I usually just go inside first. Flying-J is pretty good and most of the bigger fill facilites. Haven't had enough of a problem to think much about it. Usually when I fuel, we're ready for a little down time. So however long it takes we just go with the flow.

What is sad is when you go in and complain is that no one cares. And trying to get them to understand English when you complain
