I'm looking to install an AC unit on my E3. Anyone have tips or recommendations re: size/brand and will it run off the battery or do I need a generator? I'll probably buy it at Camping World in Roseville, CA. Nice store if you've got one nearby!

How tricky is it to install oneself?

Thanks,

DAN

Camping world has the best deal I have seen for an AC unit especially considering the low installation price they have. Run off the battery? NO WAY. You'll need a good size generator or electric hook ups. Others can tell you exactly how much gen. you need, its probaly around a 3K gen to runa 13.5 btu ac. Any case, if you camp in the humid or hot areas it would be real nice.

Thanks for the generator tip. I was afraid of that. It's on my list. Fortunately the heater in the unit is a blast furnace for winter camping (and this weekend it will be 29 degrees--at night--at the Truckee River where we're going-in Late JULY!); but AC will have to wait a little bit. A good size QUIET generator is gonna run about a grand you think? Any tips on a quiet generator? And how about the difference between 13.5 and 15K on the AC?

My recommendation would be a Carrier power saver unit for several reasons.
The Carrier unit has a slinger wheel which takes the condensation that's formed and slings it back on the condenser where it evaporates and boosts the efficiency slightly. Except in extreme temperatures and humidity conditions no stream running off the roof onto the canvas.
It also has an air shower feature in it's inside air handling which makes it superior.
As for the genset it depends a lot on what kind of life style you want to live while RV'ing. Just using the genset for the A/C and maybe battery charging I'd recommend a Yamaha EF2400i.
For all out 120 volt usage then you can't beat paralleled Honda EU2000i's. Or a Yamaha EF3000iSEB which has electric start and a battery boost to 3500 for starting loads such as A/C compressor motors, but weighs in at over 150 pounds.
But stop over to the tech forum. There are a LOT of threads on gensets and you'll get a real good education on what you'll need for your requirements.
