We have been reading a few stories in these forums that sound a lot like the article the O/P cited.. I do not recall if it was the same company.

I think he was the biggest dealer on Long Island. Had a big presence at the annual RV show too. People looking to buy who live on LI will have less choices at the Class A level now.

True, but after my poor service experience with them, I am not committed to buying locally any longer. If a Newmar is in our future, it will come from Beckleys in Maryland as they helped me out in a pinch.
Life goes on.

Jim, Maryland is probably the closest place to get a Newmar unless you want to go to that Connecticut dealer and we were not impressed with the senior salesman there!
Anyway, regarding Eddy's, every time we would drive by, we marveled at how they could possibly keep such a large inventory of all types of RVs.
Was not impressed with their sales department when we were looking but I did like their store.
Hubby was out that way on Friday and told me the place was empty. It is sad....

Had a dealer....morande mazda.... in naples florida pull that number on us when buying a miata in 2004....we didn't owe anything on the BMW trade so for us it was just not getting the title while he was not paying off the loan that the previous owner still had in effect on the miata. I contacted the Dept. of Motor Vehicles and was instrumental in putting him out of business. I later heard that the family left in the middle of the night for Connecticut and by now he's probably back in business, so watch out for them up that way.

Eddies was a Foretravel dealer for about a year. I think they did not sell a single unit and the company dropped them. They did come to all the local rallies and give us the song and dance but let me ask you. If you do not live on the island why would you drive into NYC area for service or to buy. I asked them that very thing. Oh we are cheaper to buy from and we have great service....
Interesting.

For Newmars, checkout http://www.ballardscampingcenter.com/ in Hamburg, NY. We're cycling around the southeast, but will travel to NY for Ballards prices.

GM used to send spot auditors from GMAC to a dealership and eyeball the cars supposedly not sold...If the car was not on site and the dealership could not prove it was delivered within the past 24 hours (a dealer had exactly 24 hours to pay for the car thru the open account)--GM shut its doors right there.

But it sure was not effective. Perhaps you aren't familiar with this case. GMAC sure looked foolish.
