Well I guess I will no longer be using this forum or any other. I didn't realize you people were so stuck up.

Yep, lot's of people on here think they are rv gods. They know it all, seen it all, been there, done that, and all they are to me and you are a bunch of, well, I won't go there. There is however alot of good stuff here to be learned. It's to bad that some have to try and make you look stupid in the process.

I don't think you can even get the money from a lending company without giving them proof of insurance. My experience anyway.

Let the 'spirited' conversation continue!

We wouldn't ever consider not having insurance for collision and liability on something we tow, in addition to the insurance on the TV. It was inexpensive - around $360/year - for very good coverage with a $500 deductible. We have all our insurance with the same agent and we asked her to ensure that we were not over/double covered across the policies. As has been noted, the requirements change state-to-state.

Best course of action: ask the lender what they require; ask your insurance agent how to best do it.

Guess I will put in my 2 cents worth. I use the Good Sam Continued Service Plan which ends in 2011 for $323.00. Replaces or repairs the Hot Water Heater, Fresh Water System, Heating and AC System, Refrigerator, Slide Out, Jack Assy, Brake Assy, and Electrical System Damage breaker and circuit panel, Plus Car Rental and Hotel and Meals if my camper is in maintance.

Next because All State could only cover my camper with liability and collision and a deprecation value if totaled, I elected to go with Good Sam Vehicle Insurance. I have $250 deductible on Collision/Liability or replacement cost, towing, $3,000 on Personal Effects, Lodging and Travel Expenses while camper is in for repair, plus if my camper is totaled while it is under 5 years old complete replacement of camper with a new/like model or purchase price in cash. This policy runs me $400 a year. Some might say I'm over insured, I'd rather be safe than sorry. After my camper is over 5 years old I'll rethink the matter.

Think what happened to the guy with the 5th wheel who hit the bank awning. Yes, you need insurance, and NO your question wasn't stupid. We use Progressive Insurance, and we're happy with it. I'm sorry that you got a couple of rude responses. It's happened to me too, but I just try to consider the source! There are a lot of nice people on here, too. I hope that you're still reading our responses, or we're talking to a wall, aren't we??

I'll throw my question and comment out on this thread instead of starting another one.
My comment is we had insurance on our 85 Class C motorhome and was able to have the whole front end fixed due to a leak that we couldn't
see. We just kept full coverage after it was paid for and it was very much worth it in the end. State Farm paid for it cause they said it was in such good shape, even with full coverage they came out and looked first. Sometimes I wish we had not sold it.

My question is what would be the BEST way to have insurance on an old Skyline 24ft 5th wheel? State Farm would only insure our 85 model for 1000.00 even tho we paid 2000.00 and put a new awning and new tires on it. It's clean inside and out, doesn't leak, everthing works, etc. Is this the best we can expect? I worry about a tree falling on it at the campground and losing it all.We couldn't start to buy one just like it for 1000.00. They said no matter how it looks ( didn't see it) that's all they could insure it for.

Thank you to the last 10 or so replies. I realize that not everyone on this forum is rude, and I will continue to use this forum.

We are required to have insurance, but even if we weren't required to, we still would. We cover it through Geico (whom we insure our cars through) and for full coverage it runs us about $330/year. That again is for FULL coverage with a low deductable.
