Has anyone installed a Winegard digital converter box in their PW Excel? If I buy one over the internet, is there a convenient place in the van to install it? Will appreciate any feedback.

The last time I saw one advertised they were over $100. I have bought several RCA's at Walmart for $49 and have been very happy with them both inside the house and in our RS. Small and compact and very easy to hookup.

If you install one you should know that it may not always work. They are wonderful when you have a good signal. If you are parked in a spot where you would get a little snow on the old set up then you may not be able to watch tv at all with an HDVT. It requires a good signal. Without it the picture breaks up and the sound goes away. We are into week 5 of a trip and we get HDTV about half the time. I unplug it the other half and go back to a regular signal.

You are talking about two different things there. Digital TV may or may not be HD. I have found that in areas where there is slight interference or snow with an analog signal the digital signal will be sharp. With digital there is no half way, you either have a usable signal and good picture or no picture at all.

HD is another conversation.

Again, remember, just because it's digital it may not be HD, but, it has to be digital to be HD.
Make sense?

I got to discussing this with my grandma yesterday. I recommended to her instead of buying the boxes just go get some lcd flat screens. I know more expensive but they have alot of advantages. Lighter, less power consumption (backlight has to been turned down) and no messing with that box. With my home lcd tv all it takes to switch from digital to analog is changing the channel.. 5.1 to 5.

The TV in our PW Excel is a Samsung flat screen LCD TV. However, I don't know if it will accept a digital signal. I need to look at the manual to check. I still think I need the converter box.

The Samsung in a Pleasure-Way is an analog LCD computer monitor with a built-in TV tuner. You will need a converter box.
