We have a 4 door Norcold in our motorhome and I was wondering if anyone knows
1. How much electric do these use? KWH per year?
and
2. How much propane do they use?

We are building an off grid home and I need a propane refrigerator. I found one I like and it uses 1.7 gallons of propane a week. I don't know how this compares with an RV refrigerator.

Any help would be appreciated. And it doesn't have to be a Norcold but it has to be big and stainless in color.

Thank You,
Lisa

For my two cents as a builder. If you found one you like get it. At 1.7 g a week you wont get much better. I think you will find that energy use of a propane unit is mostly related to insulation of the unit and usage paterns. Probubly a non rv unit will be better insualted as weight is not an option. That said, we have a four door norcold and it works great.

I suggest skipping absorption type (RV) refrigerators altogether and go with a regular household type instead. The efficiency of RV type refrigerators is on the low end and the cooling capabilities leave a lot to be desired. Add to that the extreme cost of acquisition and the choice becomes easy.
