Seems like this year has been a rough one for a lot of us with furry and feathered friends crossing the bridge.
I wrote this a while back after loosing Fuzz. We had gone to the local shelter to adopt another cat in Fuzz's memory.
I hope all of you who have lost a little buddy think about this and help change a shelter anmals life for the better.

GIVE ME A CHANCE....
(a shelter animals prayer)

I know that you don't know me.
But since I've caught your eye.
I need to ask a favor.
Please...
Just a moment of your time.

See I am but a child.
I don't want to go to sleep.
My whole life lies before me.
So much to do and see.
I'd like to know what it's like,
to have a family.
Feel the sun, warm on my fur.
A kind hand rub my belly.

All that I ask of you.
Is a chance to look ahead.
A little bit of food, some love.
An old towel for my bed.

If you can find a place for me.
In your home and in your heart.
My unconditional love I'll give.
'Til this world, my soul departs.

Please just one moment of your time.
While I make one last plea.
For I am but a child.
PLEASE don't make me go to sleep.

There are a lot of animals out there that don't have a home.
They are no different then the ones that cost hundreds of dollars in pet shops. Except that they don't have long to live.
Give em a chance. I can tell you from experience. A shelter pet knows when it's be given that chance. And it will be eternally gratefully to you for it's life. And you will feel something from inside that you might never have felt before.
Go on, give em a chance.
In memory of Fuzz.

thank you for the prayer, we have a network of animal shelters we are in contact with and were going to be sending them all a copy of it.

Yeah Margie, I did. All I ask is that you have them post it as a memorial to Fuzz.

Bill....that was a wonderful poem.....made me remember 3 1/2 years ago when my beloved corgi Max crossed over the bridge...He was 2 yrs old and died following a horiffic weekend of non-stop seizures that we couldn't control..after Max died, I swore I would never have another furkid.....too heartbreaking to lose..but my heart was so empty, my daughter took me to the local animal shelter and I found Mike...a sleek, beautifully marked Dobie/Sheppard mix. Mike spoke to me immediately with his eyes and begged me to take him home. I opened my heart again and let Mike in...we have had him 3 years now...he is 5 years old and the most wonderful furkid a mom could ask for. He is very devoted to me and I take him with me just about everywhere. And he loves camping....you are right about shelter dogs..they are so grateful for a second chance at a happy life..I know my Mike is because he shows me that gratitude every day. Good luck with your search....when you find the right one, your heart will tell you....Here's to Fuzz....and a future reunion at the Rainbow Bridge.....

See you on the campground...

Paula
