hello. We are looking to purchase a 5th wheel in about a year. i have some questions on the hitches. Can you remove the hitch out of the bed of your vehicle when you are not towing, or is it bolted down. never had a 5th before just TT. i dont want to lose my bed space all the time. We are going to get a short bed so we would get a slider. Is there certain brands to stay away from. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi

I would look on Ebay for a hitch - you could save quite a bit of money. The hitch is removable when not is use.

Also remove your tailgate when installing and towing the trailer.

We remove ours all the time. A little heavy but not too bad.

Many leave the hitch connected to the trailer and use the 5er jack to lift it off.

A Pullrite Super Glide with SuperRail mount kit gives you a clear bed(no brackets).

Link to www.pullrite.comand watch the video.

I've never towed with my tailgate off. When unhitched my tailgate and Jack Rabbit tonneau cover are closed and locked.

I have a Pull Rite Superglide with the under bed kit. when I pull the hitch out there are ony four holes in the bottom of my bed. I take it out regularly. It comes apart in three pieces with the base being the heaviest. While I have removed and put it in it by myself the help of my 14 yo son is a tremendous help.

I have a block and tackle attached to the ceiling of my garage and use it to hoist out the 5er hitch- weighs abt 200 lbs and I can do this myself with the tackle. Whats left in the truck bed are two rails which are bolted to the truck frame thru the truck bed. If you have a bed liner, they will cut out the liner where the rails are going in order to have a solid contact with the metal bed. If you have a spray-on liner, they just bolt thru it instead.

I have a Reese hitch and when removed there are two rails left in the bed running across the bed. The bed isn't perfectly flat, but for me it is fine and I can carry whatever I need. B&W makes a hitch that when removed leaves the bed flat with no rails. There are a number of good hitches out there. Decide what your needs are and have fun looking.
