Outdoorsman, you are right aboubt the stickers making all the difference. I have a 99 psd that had the powerstroke emblem on the front fender. I got paranoid about power strokers looking down at becasuse I had a 99.
So I badged it with 2000 door stickers and now the whole world is happy and I also can look down on the guys running the 99's with fender stickers.

I would say get either the 2500 or the 3500. I have bags under the rear of my truck and my buddies 3500 had the overloads. We pull very similar trailers and he removed the overloads and put bags in his. Now his truck is EXACTLY the same as mine. They are both megacabs with the same options, but he has the auto and I have the manual. Both trucks handle the trailers with no issue and ride identical. If you are ordering, get the 3500, if you are buying off the lot, get whatever one suits you the best. You will like the Cummins and Megacab combo. It is a great traveling truck, and it is not too short for a 5th wheel, I have pulled my trailer in some very nasty places and never had one issue. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Great truck. The Megacab's bed is 6.5 feet long, same as any other shortbox truck (Ford, GMC, Chevy). Ever see any of those towing a 5er? The Megacab bed just LOOKS shorter than it is due to the huge cab.

The 3500 SRW Megacab has a 10,100# GVWR (not 9900#). The 2500 has a 9000# GVWR. That equals over 1000# more payload (deducting the weight of teh overload springs). The only mechanical difference is the factory overload springs and perches on the frame.
According to the "tire and loading information" sticker on my driver's door post, my truck has a payload of 2741# which means it weighs 7359#.
Go for the 3500 SRW, or get a 2500 and add some rear suspension upgrades for (mechanically) the same truck.

in youre case id buy the one ton drw chassie cab and have a srw bed put on then get a 19.5 inch wheel upgrade to handle loads in the future of a larger tt
but for your current rig the 3/4 ton is fine and will handle no problem
but if you go bigger and want srw do 19.5 inch tires to get the weight ratings you neeed

I agree with Txiceman, but it depends on the 5ver you're towing. some manufactures are designing their 5vers for the short bed. I have the 07 mega cab and towed my 33' tetonhome even with the slider hitch we had the fecal material scared out of us. I found a place that dodge would not void the warranty and coverted it to a long bed. what a tow vehicle it is, the expense was worth it

I see one all the time. But my fifth is designed to bed towed with short be trucks

I will probably go with 19.5's after this next set of tires wears out. I have Toyo's right now and they are rated at 3970lbs per tire but they won't last over 40k by the looks of them. With the cost of two sets of Toyos I could buy one set of 19.5 tire and wheels. I think the 19.5 tires should last a 100k so I will be paying less for tires in the long run.
