Ok so my TT's walls are gutted and I'm redoing the electrical. the 110v pretty much stayed the same except i moved the outlets around on the walls to better accomodate the layout, with one exception. I relocated the city water inlet. This left me with a hole in the aluminum siding. So I added an outdoor electrical outlet. My question is how good is the foam gaskets for sealing? Would it be more water tight if i used butyl tape and caulk in place of the gasket?

Thanks

Hi,

Yes you can use the waterproof caulking instead of the foam gaskets.

The foam gaskets seem to work on many thousands of Ts.

I use the same double-side dense closed-cell foam tape used to attach auto emblems and logos by the auto mfgs. Works like a champ, doesn't hold H2O, doesn't discolor, and doesn't ever need replacement. It has a gray factory edge which can be painted to match, too.

When I installed my electrical hatch mod---my solar, phone, sat., & cable in one locking hatch, which is in the back of an overhead cabinet, I used a 5/8" thick closed-cell gasket trimmed to fit in the hatch door groove....no leaks in 4 years.

I would bed in the butyl tape and caulk to insure a good seal.
