Headed North in Mid September. Will be staying at Lake Erie SP, planning on a couple day trips into Canada, one to Toronto. Any suggestions on the "must see", "places to eat" around Toronto?
Couple years back we did the Falls and a couple quick trips into Canada but this will be our first into Toronto.

Thanks for any suggestions.

First, I think you need a passport to travel into Canada now.
Keep in mind Toronto is Huge!! Almost as big as Chicago, bigger than Philly. People drive fast.
Toronto has an amazing zoo.
CN tower is cool
Ontatio Place is a realy neat place to go. It is a lakefront park with lots to see and do in the summer, probably less after labor day.
Highways are good, but it is easy to miss an exit cuz of heavy traffic and high speeds. Everything is 25-40% more $$, like entertainment, parking, restaurants, etc.
Get a AAA tourbook and read it before you go. lots to see and do.

I'm not sure I agree with the above post about everything (except parking) being 25 - 40% more than elsewhere.

The CN tower Toronto is open daily from 9am-10pm January-April; 8am-11pm May-December. Cost is $16 for adults.

Above the observation decks is the Skypod, the world’s highest observation gallery. Views from here are fantastic, but not that different than the decks below. The Skypod costs $7 CAN extra to see, so you decide if the extra 100m up is worth the cost.

I agree with the CN Tower, Ontario Place would probably take most of the day to justice to. Try loging onto http://www.toronto.ca/ and go to the visitors section for more information. The Toronto Zoo, excellant but HUGE, it takes about 3hours of walk just to go around it without stopping in the different pavillions.

In the Niagara area, try the Welland Ship Canal, there is a visitors centre and observation deck when you can see (timing) a ship up to 700 feet long and almost 80 feet wide be raised or lower in a lock. very interesting.

Again Passports. May not be necessary to get into Canada, but will be necessary to get back into the U.S. (even for a U.S. citzen).

Great info, thanks for the replies.... we also enjoy the "laid Back" sites, the small diners...things the people that live in the area like to do...

Thanks for all the info...

The passports have me a little confused... most "official" sites are saying we do not need them???

The passport requirement is not in effect yet, unless you are flying. Not till 2009 for regular ground crossings, I believe. And remember the passport is not to get into Canada, but to get Back to the USA. Now I think you need two pieces of government issue ID, one of which must have a photo on it.
