OK, I own a 2000 F250 Super Duty Crew Cab with a V10 motor. I have a 26' toy hauler that weighs 6,000 dry and about 8,000 loaded. The F250 is a dog on the highway, acceleration is poor and barely does 55. Don't get me started on the hills. I would think this vehicle should be able to pull the trailer without a problem. Friends who have the same vehicle agree. I have had a new air filter, New Fuel filter installed and even an injection service. The truck only has 50K miles on it. Any suggestions out there????Should I have it DYno tested? Help!!!!!

That is very poor performance from a power horse v10, have you pulled the plugs checked the plug wires, are there any codes shown? Maybe distributor cap went bad, I am not sure what a dyno test would tell you other than you already know, that it has low performance.

You obviously have an engine problem that may need proffesional help. It is close to 9 years old.

If it hasn't had the oxygen sensor(s) replaced then it's about time. They get lazy with age and can make a huge difference in power. This is a relatively cheap thing to shot-gun before taking it in to a profesional.

I have the same model engine except in a 350 and pull a 13K 5th wheel. I have no complaints with it towing or solo. Sounds like you need to take it to the Ford house and have them put the computer on it and see if something is amiss.

Check to see what rear end is in it, don't believe what the tag states especially if you didn't buy it new.

My 2001 F350 V10 had a 4.10 RE and it towed 6000 lbs like it wasn't even there. I doubt a couple more thousand would have made a diff. Of course it was a dually and rated for 20,000..

My last pickup was a 99 f250 with the V10. It had a TON of power. Even @ 200k miles and 10 years old. We pulled a 8k trailer all over the place and had a hard time keeping it under 60 on the highway...But when I bought it new it couldn't get out of it's own way. It only had about 2k miles on it when I took it back to the dealer and told them for a V10 this thing had absolutely no power. Well when I came back to pick it up from the dealer they showed me what looked like a piece of mudflap and told me that this was the problem. Well I couldn't beleive that this was the cause so I told them I wanted to take it out for a test ride before I signed anything. When I hit the gas the truck took off like a shot, almost ran over the car in front of me, I couldn't believe it. It was like a different truck. When I got back to the dealer I asked what was with the piece of mudflap. They explained that the intake was near a splash guard and that when the engine started to suck in air this splash guard would partially cover the intake and starve the engine. Being computer controlled the engine wouldn't make any power because it wasn't getting any air (no error codes either). All they did was cut away the piece that would cover the intake. So try looking to see if the intake is clear and if there is a splash guard near it that could cover it. Sounds weird but it solved my problem.

Keep the suggestions coming. As for the plugs, they look pretty good. I am going to try the o2 sensor and look at the ud flap zone. When I brought it in for the fuel filter and air cleaner, the mechanic stated he couldn't find any error codes, but it still didn't do the trick. So keep giving me some ideas I'll try them all.

What a great site. Hopefully some of these recommendations will fit the bill and fix the problem.
