I have a thermocell that I use when hunting that works like a champ. I have also used it at the campsite when the wind is low and love it. I am fixing to buy one made like a lantern like this one..thermocell

I have one of these and it seems to work well. I have used it twice.

I had a salesperson at Bass Pro Shops recommend one of these to me. He said he had never seen one until he startyed working there and bought one and loves it. I have not tried it yet. I was thinking he was just trying to sell me something but I may have to try it.

I agree with the listerine. Just spray it one the ground around you. We don't have problems.

Campsite location means a lot: lake side, open site, on-shore breeze in the evening - avoid deep woods sites like they had the plague - getting a preferred site obviously takes a little pre-planning (if we can't get one during the worst part of bug season then we simply don't go camping)

Time of day is important: plan your sittin' around activities when the critters are the least busy - plan alternate activities when they get hungry.

Get a screen tent - ours is worth its weight in gold during bug season - keeps us outside and bug free.

As a last resort: bug dope - we use skin-tastic - doesn't last as long as some of the others but it is not anywhere near as offensive.

They certainly aren't a cure but we find that cintronella oil (not candles) and the coils do a fair job. A few years ago we were in Alaska at a campground where the skeeters we prevelent. The campground had a couple coils burning at the open laundry door and sure enough nary a skeeter inside though quite thick outside the door.

Thermacell is now available at most Walmarts. Convenient and effective, but you gotta keep buying refills.

Worth it!

The Listerine really works. Buy a big bottle (the regular brown horrible tasting stuff) at Sams or Costco and a sturdy sprayer. Spray everything around your campsite really good. Will last for a pretty long time. It also works wonders to take the sting away when you do get bit.

I have heard some pretty good things about ThermaCell devices and I was thinking about trying them - but our RVing season is about over now so it will have to wait till next year. But you might give them a try.

Just returned from two weeks in Colorado. We had some beautiful sites in NFS campgrounds. Many pine trees=many mosquitoes.

After reading a forum recommendation about Thermocell I purchased two. They worked so well. Better than any citronella, fabric softener, or any other anti-mosquito product that I have every tried.

I recommend Thermocell 100%
