My new awning has as groove in the knobs so I can use the pull down down rod to tighten the knobs. Works great because I tend to forget to tighten those knobs until the awning is all set up.The new awning is an AE 8500 series with the rain dumping piston.

I have issues with one of mine as well. The Knob turns but never loosens. Feels like it entire unit is froze and the bolt head is turning on the back side as it make a popping sound like it is jumping in and out of the hole.

Sounds like the bolt is frozen to the nutsert. The least resistance is the nutsert to the arm, so the nutsert is turning. That was my case. Cut it off, and install a new one beside it.
