I just heard that Ives Run campground will be draining the lake to make access for "improvements". I was told that you will not be able to launch a boat from any ramp on Hammond or Tioga Lakes due to the 10 foot drawdown. I was also told that you will not be able to fish from shore because the shoreline will be a mucky mess. In addition the Ives Run Beach will be closed. If they drain the lake, I would think that the decaying algae around the entire shoreline would produce a strong offensive odor. Can anyone confirm if what I heard is true?
Life is Good
“The happiness of the domestic fireside is the first boon of Heaven; and it is well it is so, since it is that which is the lot of the mass of mankind.” - Thomas Jefferson, 1813
Yes, your information is correct. They are building a new boat launch in the campground and other improvements around the place starting August 1st.
So this means, as you said, no launching boats as the water will be too low, and there will be very limited foot access to the waters edge for fishing. The Beach area will also be closed during this time period. The campground is still opened and will remain so, as far as I know. We were planning a trip there, but decided to wait until next year since we know the kids would want to use the beach area and we all like to fish, etc.
Thanks for posting this info -- would be a shame to have someone go with certain activities in mind, only to find these aren't possible.

I read that too on the Rec.gov website. We will be staying there for a night next month as a stopover so access to the lake won't matter. In fact, it may not be as crowded.

Sorry you didn't know about the construction being done -- I hope it won't interfere with your trip! I don't know if you'll get this in time -- but I would love to see some pics of the place... maybe some of the campsites too, if you have time. We personally like the most private sites we can find... and I have no idea what the sites are like there. We've never been there, but plan to check it out next summer once all the work is completed. So anything you can share photo-wise would be great!
Have a great time... I hear it is a very nice place!
Mikesr - I hope your trip goes well.
I have been to Ives Run campground when the lake is full; it was beautiful. I also am very interested in some pics of the lake and campground. Please send pics and comments about campground, atmosphere and management.
