Just wondering how any individuals that own an automatic awning put patio lights on them.
My Seneca 35GS has an automatic awning that is sealed on both ends by the mechanism used to roll it up and down. I have no access to the awning channel that I used on manual awnings in the past.
The Senica has only one exterior light on the awning side located between the entry door and and a slide out. When slide is extended, the light is useless except for illuminating the entry steps and the side of the slide. So far my only solution is to lay some rope lights out on the ground, and I am not pleased with that.

I seriously miss my lights!

We also have an automatic awning, but we have solved the light issue with two alternate means:
1. We carry a collapsable step ladder that we use to hang our lights from the accessory groove. We use Rollemup straps in the accessory groove, that way we can leave the straps in place when we roll the awning up. Caution be sure to turn enable switch off to prevent the awning from rolling up unexpectantly.
2. We have a set of solar pathway lights that we place in small flower pots filled with local gravel or dirt, we place them around the patio area and they provide a soft glow that is not offensive to neighbors. These require no electricity, they charge during the day and come on at dusk and stay on all night. When breaking camp the batteries must be removed or the lights will stay lit in your compartments until completely discharged. You can either use the flower pots plain or you can decorate them.
Have fun.

Does your awning have a flap that hangs down from the roller bar?

Hard to explain what that mean - and I don't have a good picture to show you. Unless you can see in the small pic in my signature. Anyway, if you understand what I'm describing - you could buy some clips and just attach them to the flap area with those. We have a channel, but DH came up with clip idea because it would be easier to take them down. We don't like the channel -- its a bit cumbersome. Our clips are long and silver so on our grey awning you'd probably never notice them at least not from a distance.

Have you thought about solar powered landscape lights? I would hate to see your awning roll up with the lights attached.

I picked up a nylon cloths line at a dollar store, this is a nylon cord which has close pins already on it, and a pair of hooks on each end, intended to be strung up and taken down.

I drilled a couple of holes, put in a couple of "S" hooks a few inches "in ward" from the roller and.. It holds the lights

Should the stupid A&D sensor roll it up in a 0.04MPH wind again.. No damage

Re- Rope lights on the ground.. I tell my wife and I tell her DON"T STEP ON THE LIGHTS but does she listen? (Actually she simply does not watch her step, never has)

For the folks who suggest using the spare channel in the tube or the flap, the problem is if the awning auto-retracts this makes one mel of a hess as they say, As the lights roll up inside the awning and the cord gets torn up. Not a good thing at all.

This is why I ran a clothsline "inside" about 6" back from the roller tube

That way the lights just hang off the line, If it retracts they keep hanging off the line. Work great
