What are the advantages/ disadvantages of elect and hyd power for slide outs. I am leary of hyd and also they add extra weight

Actually as far as I am concerned hydraulic is much better and actually less weight. Only one motor/pump and a hydraulic resevoir. Also much faster and quieter. The hydraulics today are very dependable.

i've had both. when my tt was slightly off level, the electric slide bound ever so slightly resulting in a sheared key. the only way to get the slide in was to replace the shear key. luckily i was in town and the hardware store had the right one. if the motor were to have failed there would have been no way retract the slide short of pulling the motor off the screw and hand cranking the screw. on my current hydraulic setup, there is a hand pump next to the motor. if the motor fails then you just pump the hand pump like a bottle jack, easy enough. oh, and i have operated the hyd slide when slightly off level with no problems.

it's all a matter of preferance really. many people will have many opinions.

I've had both...electric on my previous T.T. and Hydraulic on my current 5er..........no comparison in my opinion. The Hydraulic system is smoother, quieter, FASTER and more powerful, especially considering the fact that I have 4 slides, one of which is very large. You won't be sorry if you buy a trailer with a Hydraulic system.

My 1993 unit has a hydraulic slide which works great and has never given me a problem. I do have some minor pitting in the rams which is causing insignificant leakage (2 ounces of fluid last year). I suppose someday I will have to replace both hydraulic cylinders but, it is a '93 edition. I've never had an electric version so I can't give an opinion there. Hope this helps and good luck!!

We have Hydraulic slides and landing gear. Never had any problems with our setup. Seems to be much quicker then the motor driven slides. Good luck with your decision.

We have had the hydraulic slides and gear driven slides. With the new 5er it has small electric motors with cable driven slides. I was somewhat hesitant but they work excellent and are quick and smoothe. Faster than my others were.

Our Allegro Bus has both. Because we have 4 slides, it appears Tiffin engineers put hydraulic actuators on the passenger side, and electric on the driver side so opposing systems would not conflict by using the same space. We notice very little difference in noise levels when operating, and time to retract and extend is comparable for like size slides. The only real difference we see is that the hydraulic slides require the key to be on to operate, and the electric do not.

I've had both, never had problems with either electric or hydraulic.
Hydraulic is faster, I don't necessarily agree that hydraulic is smoother, quieter, or less troublesome. Guess it depends on what comes on the unit you get. Both work well, the newer electric ones are as smooth as the hydraulic and will last as long as the hydraulic. I know with the hydraulic slides I had, you needed to put the "stop's" in when slides were in to come them from coming out in case something happened to the hydraulics, but, some come with check valves, meaning, they don't need the stops, I've never owned an electric system that needed the stops. Both ststems, should something happen to them, would need to be opened and closed by hand, a real pain no matter what you own. Again, I don't believe your going to go wrong with whichever one you get.

If you go with hydraulic make sure you have slide selector valves. I've had to use my selector a few times now.

I've had both, hydraulic is much faster. I wish my landing gear wasn't electric.
