When I got home, thinking it was a 12V maker and had the 1/4" plug electric adapter, well I was wrong. It has a cigarette adapter type plug. Is there anyway I can use this on my popup somehow?

Thanks,
Dave

Well any 1/4" outlet is limited to a maximum of 4 amps. A plastic cigarette lighter type outlet is maxed out at 8 amps. The all metal types are rated for 20 amps.
But having said that figure 45 minutes for lousy coffee at best. 12 volt heating elements either need super direct wiring (and hugh battery draws) or very low BTU output.

Do you have a 12V power outlet in your TV? Check the specs for the coffee maker and the TV outlet. If they're compatible, just make your coffee in your TV.

Otherwise, you could wire up a car-type outlet in your popup.

Hi,

Here is a really easy way to make a cup of coffee by using boiling water - it tuns out pretty good, and you can make gallons of boiling water before that 12 volt coffee maker will ever warm up 1 cup.

Boil some water and get out three coffee cups.

Take a Mr. Coffee filter holder and line it with a liner and a heaping TBS of coffee.

Put it over cup #1 and pour in about 3/4 cup of water (to not overfill, but you can change to cup 2 if this happens).

Move to cup #2, and add a tiny bit more coffee, then 3/4 cup of water.

(repeat with more cups if you have company)

Move to cup #3 so it can sit someplace without making a mess of the table. You will end up with some bitter and strong coffee in that cup, I have not tried that cup yet. When ready for a refill, add a little more fresh coffee, move back to cup #1 or #2 and add more boiling (or really hot) water.

Repeat until you are done.

By the way, don't bother with a 12 volt toaster. I always broil my toast - just butter first and then broil the top side. Turns out great!

There are stove top toasters, but I have not used it sucsessfully, usually a little to well done on one part, not well enough on another.

A 10 amp 12 volt coffee maker will heat the water at 120 watts per hour, or about 360 Btu's per hour. So heating 3.6 pounds 100F will take 1 hour. There is a pint of water in a pound. The electric coffee maker can keep the coffe plenty warm though.

Fred.

I assume you got a 12-volt because you are boondocking/dry camping? If so, Coleman makes a drip coffee-maker that sits on a propane campstove, could even be used on the stove inside your camper, though it will take a while since it is low pressure. If you aren't dry camping, there are coffee makers out there that will only make one or two cups of coffee usually right into an insulated mug.

or you could save a bunch of money and just buy an old fashioned coffee pot at Wal-Mart.

I assume you mean a percolator? The good heavy ones are $20 at Wal-Mart and the stove-top drip ones are around $30. I will take drip coffee over perked any day!

I think you're gonna be very disappointed with a 12v coffee maker. The one I used took too long and came out luke-warm at best.

Back in our PUP days, the old standard coffee pot on the stove was the answer. We were usually hooked up to AC power, but we were equipped so we could camp without power if we had do....after this happened.

We planned a trip to Darien State Park, NY, which is fairly close to us. Having stayed at other NY state parks, we assumed that we would have AC power. In planning our menu, we took along the electric frying pan to use for breakfasts. This was very early in our camping days, and we weren't fully equipped. To our surprise, when we got there, we discovered that AC hookups weren't available. Sooooooooo....off we went to get a frying pan.......and we still have that pan in our trailer!

Get a percolator and learn how to use it. It will cost you around $20 Link and it will last you for decades. They works with any kind of stove and even on an open fire. When used correctly (timing is critical, don't overboil) it will make a great cup of coffee.
