I priced some tires at Les Schwab, and they said their 'Toyo' brand was their Premiun tire. And the brand under that was "Ottsu" at $17 cheaper.

Anyone know these brands ? Any comments on either one ?

You can search this Forum for the names of the tires to see what has been previously discussed.

I have Toyo's on both motorhomes, 16's and 19.5's. No problems so far.

Thing to remember about Schwab is that their customer service is outstanding even if the tire is of marginal quality.

Application of this tire would be an important factor - if these tires are for a locally driven commuter car -the off brand may be a consideration. If the application is my pickup truck towing a trailer -no thought to consider the off-brand tire....

Toyo's are top of the line tires around the world, even though they're not very well known in the States. My brother-in-law has been in the truck and car tire business for over 20 years in Toronto, and he and his company swear by Toyo's.

We put the Toyo's on our Class C about 4 years ago and they have worked out well. Much better ride, handling and wear (less wear) than the Firestones they replaced. We run a lot of highway miles throughout the Intermountain West and back and forth from Salt Lake to British Columbia multiple times a year.

As another poster said, the service from my local Les Schwab dealer, where I purchased the Toyos, has been excellent. We have all our vehicles tires purchased/serviced there, and they stand behind what they sell. Valve replacements (if they leak), puncture fixes, rebalancing (if a weight falls off) all handled promptly, without hassle, and all free (included in the original purchase price).

One thing I especially liked about the Les Schwab dealer I chose is that they do a huge business in commercial and over the road class 8 trucks. So, working on my Class C (they have done shocks and alignment over the years as well) was a piece of cake for them. Car only shops often struggle when working on a motorhome.

Good luck with your decision.

I bought a set of six 265/75/22.5 Toyo M-124Z's from Les Schwab in 5/05 for $1,500 and they have performed perfectly. I understand the price has gone up due to the cost of oil, but they are still a great buy. Good luck. JMHO

I put a set of Toyo's Open Country 245/65/16.5 load range E on the 04 ram in January--too soon to know how they'll run out--BUT one of the 4 was made in China I later found out. They look identical. So far I can't see a difference but I am keeping an eye out for any wear differential. I used Toyos on the camper vans I sold years back and they gave fantastic wear. But that's history. If it makes a difference to you specify made in Japan only.

Cheers!

Toyo's are excellent tires, and so is the service from Schwab's.

premium tires ??
premium tires used to mean it had a 16-17/32nds tread depth as compared to off brand or a cheaper line of the same brand tires 13-14/32nds of tread depth for LT and P tires. Premium tires usually come with a higher mileage warranty 80k copmpared to 50k-60k for non premium. Lower priced tires costs less for a reason.
