Heard last night on the news that people in the us have driven almost 10 Billion miles less last month. That's with a B. The price of gas as well as the higher costs for food etc. has really made people think before the jump in the car a run out somewhere. Gas prices up where I live have gone from 3.99 a gallon to around 3.62 a gallon now. They expect this trend, of driving less, to continue because people do not have the expendable income they once had. I have been forced to cut back on my day to day driving and I can't take the long trips in the motor home anymore. But that's okay with me.....let the oil companies sit on their gas.

I discovered a way to save lots on my fuel bill. My 18 yo daughter got her own car about 6 weeks ago and now the gas in my tank lasts much longer!

By my calculations, that means that 50 MILLION fewer gallons of gas were consumed (based on an average 20 mpg). Where is all that extra gas? Why haven't prices dropped?

At an average of 20 MPG that is 500 million gallons of gas. I heard that the government is hurting because they are not collecting enough taxes. Guess what will happen. It is not only the oil companies.

I heard the same thing. I'm really proud of everyone for doing their part.
I noticed fewer people, especially RV's on the road while moving to our new assignment. We just moved from OH/WV and found an RVP closer to the new jobsite.

I suspect we will not see much of a drop in fuel prices until the speculators are driven out of the oil market. Saw an article this morning saying the hedge funds are shifting to gold and other precious metals in anticipation of a move to restrict their activity in oil.
There's certainly be a reduction in the number of logging trucks zooming around here. Almost makes me want to crank up the motorcycle & put the saddlebags back on.

Here I am, sitting around and wondering who drives 10 billion miles in a month. Man, think of the tire wear.
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Where in heavens do they get these numbers!!?? I don't believe the government most of the time, why should I start now? I would imagine it is a "feel good" type of strategy, makes you feel like things are looking up with regards to the gasoline situation. Now they can raise the gas tax since they are netting less revenue from gas taxes caused by our "10 billion fewer miles."
I drive 80 miles of interstate every day (not by choice mind you) and I've seen no noticeable lessening of vehicle numbers, or decreases in most vehicles' speeds. I have noticed fewer numbers of RV's though.

I think someone is smoking something. There is no way that this country drove 10 Billion miles less last month. Lucky if they drove 1 billion. Someone please show me that statement from a credible source. And how exactly did they come up with this number. SWAG method?
