I have Allstate for insurance and they have been good to work with. However, I always draw blank looks when asking about insurance for my TC. The saga is not yet resolved, and here is the story thus far...
I bought my TC two years ago. When I approached my agent, he indicated it was not a problem to cover the camper as part of my truck's insurance policy. I discussed a number of scenarios - on truck, off truck, camping, stored, etc - and confirmed it is covered in all cases. I followed this up with a written letter just so we had a record of the conversation.
Fast forward two years. My agent retires & sells his business to another Allstate agent in the area. No worries, I set up a meeting with the new agent and go introduce myself. I have always been a little worried about the coverage as my truck's policy simply said, "Coverage includes camper unit". No mention of make, model, value, serial number, etc. The new agent tells me the policy was in fact wrong and I should be charged a premium of $78 every 6-months. I pay some money for the partial policy period, and wait until my renewal comes up.
Now it is time for my renewal. So I read through the policy. The rating information for my TC states "This vehicle is used as a trailer". Ummmm.... yeah. So I call the new agent back and speak with the assistant. I explain it does not have wheels, sits in the bed of the truck, and how Lance doesn't even make travel trailers. Now it turns out the TC was insured just fine by the old agent and the new agent did it wrong.
Anyway, I am waiting on a call back from the agent to sort this out. Either way, I will ask for something written from the agent to back me up just in case I ever have a claim.

My Allstate insurance on my truck also says "Coverage includes camper unit". I've double-checked this with my agent and he says it's covered just fine.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has had a significant claim regarding their TC and who was covered under their truck policy. We just settled a total loss for full value but we had the TC under its own policy. My own impression is that these insurance people think the camper is like a Leer shell topper, not a $35,000 asset.
I'm with you dieseleagle. I don't think these ins co. have a clue to the value of these tc's. I have my tc & my 5vr added as a ryder on my truck & pay extra for that ryder.I also added contents coverage. Checked with my agent that I've been with for over 25 yrs & he too said all is good. I trust him for he is an avid hunter, fisherman & camper. I just hope I can trust the co. if the need ever arises.
I have Allstate also and its wrote up as a trailer, my agaent says he does that for TC all the time. My TC has it own seperate policy so it has full coverage on or off the truck and I just pick it up from Galaxy Camper today after repairs were made to the siding all paid by Allstate (minus dedectable), they didn't give me any problems about the claim.
I have my Eagle Cap 1160 Under it's own policy. I was quoted everything from 450 a year to 800. It is valued at 36,000. I thought this was crazy, but I called everyone I could think of. Progressive was the cheepest with Good Sams Club a close second.
My Allstate policy has covered two TCs for about $4 for six months. Your new agent is billing you as if you are pulling a camper trailer.
He's dead wrong.
Also, I requested and received statements with the explicit camper new cost.
I am with State Farm. My camper is covered for $5,000 including contents as a rider to my truck's insurance. This ads $24 every six months. When the camper is not on the truck, it is covered under my homeowner's policy (also with SF) whether it is at my house, in storage, or at a campground.
