For some reason our DVD is only playing movies in B&W. It is a Panasonic Home Theatre attached to a Panasonic LCD. We have had color so it did work, but not now. We did call Panasonic but they weren't much help. They said to check if there was a wire loose, but from the ones we can check they are okay. The TV is built in above the front window within a wooden frame. Not sure how to be able check the wiring on the TV as there are no visible screws to remove the framework. Possibly it is an adjustment on the controller, but if so we don't know what to check.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Today our DVD player at work did the exact thing. It had been playing fine and then all of a sudden no color--just black and white. Turned out that a cable had come disconnected.

I'd be very suspicious of a cable that's come loose.
Can you remove the DVD player and test it with another TV? If it works, then it's either the front cable or the front TV. If it doesn't, it's the DVD player.
Are you on a switchbox? can you route the signal to a rear TV?

Let me ask a question.. HOW is it connected?
There are several ways that they hook up TV's to DVD players,
one is using a cable that has a special mini-din plug called an "S-VIDEO" cable
S-(Short for seperated) video was developed by Commodore Busisness Machines for use on the Commodore 64 and 128, it's also used by Atari on the 800 IIRC.
In any case there are 3 wires in that cable that are important
Color, Luma, Ground
IF the color wire is not making good contact..... You get black and white
Of course, there are other ways to hook 'em up, and there are a long list of other issues that can cause that self same symptom.
Most of the other reaons it's cheaper to buy a new DVD player
My first computer was a Vic-20, then a C=64 then a 128 and finally I had to downgrade to poor computers PCs)
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

We once had a VCR that only produced B&W. I moved it to another TV and it produced color. Took it back to the other TV and it produced Color. Huh, Fixed, I thought. Put it back into the cabinet and…B&W. WHAT THE! Pulled it out of the cabinet and….color. In…B&W, out…Color. I ended up putting some foil between the TV and the VCR and had color from then on.
Just a suggestion.

Any low voltage will reduce color to B&W. Check every connection by hand with a little gentle wiggling too.

Okay DH is totally frustrated now. Tried it on another TV and no color. Of course this was after unhooking and removing the TV at the front of the MH and checking all the connections. B&W on the other TV. Decided to give up for now and put it all back. No DVD connection at all. We'll save this for another day.
Panasonic did suggest cleaning the DVD player but I can't see that helping. This DVD player has maybe played 10 movies, if that. But, hey at this point we will try anything.
Thanks for your suggestions.

One last question before you trashcan the DVD player - when he tested it on another TV, did he use the same cable that was plugged in the front or did he use a different cable?
Basic troubleshooting - if he moved the cable with the DVD, then it's still possible that its EITHER the DVD or the cable. If he used another cable, then you've most likely narrowed it down to the DVD player itself.
Also, are there any other connection options on the DVD player and TV? Sometimes players come with composite connections (red/white/yellow) as well as straight coax antenna cable and in newer players even S-video or component. If your TV supports any of these, you might try using another type of cable hookup. Once in a blue moon a port can fail but the other connectors are still fine.
If all that fails, well, you probably are faced with the "opportunity" of enjoying a new DVD player.
