My uncle-in-law had a Dodge class C "mobile home" that burned to the ground a while back. The transmission failed and dumped transmission fluid on the exhaust. This caught fire and coach went up in flames like a book of matches. It was a hot day in Phoenix when this happened.

That's the way it usually happens. A transmission temp gage, sending unit in the oil pan, backed up by a warning light would be a cheap solution for those who own older RVs.
The fact that 'replacement' coverage on older units is not generally available, makes such preventative measures very important.
Pressure gage on the cooling system isn't a bad plan either.

Wow. There is no telling how long it was burning before the video started but 4.5 minutes from going good to more than completely involved.

We hive driven highway 15 between Las Vegas NV and Barstow Ca a distance of about 150 miles many times. We counted over 150 burn spots going south before we stopped counting. Vehicle fires are very common in the southwest. High temperatures and fluid leaks are a bad combination.

Yeah. All RVs or TVs should have trans temp inds, anyway.
Anybody know what the boilover temp is on trans fluid?
I wonder if a little sheet metal would reroute any boiling fluid away from the exhaust. My trans dipstick tube is about a mile long, coming out up front on top of the radiator.
I had a front pump seal leak fluid on exhaust once. Only smoke, but it was more excitement than I needed that day.

Whew! That video was really scary. I just finished installing a fire supression system for the engine and genny (http://www.firefight1.com/).
Cost about $350, and I hope I never have to use it.
