Last night at midnight my lp detector went off. I got out of bed and went and turned off the propane bottles and disconnected them When I got back the propane alarm was off. Of course that may have been from opening the door and getting some fresh air in. I went to bed and about an hour later it went off again. I opened the door and went outside and looked around (why I don't know, since I had turned of the bottles and disconnected them.). Went back inside and the the alarm turned off shortly. In about another hour it went off again, then in a 20 seconds it turned off again. Did it one more time and then not again.

Not once did I ever smell any gas.

I have been on the same sight for the last two months and the only propane I have used is for the hot water tank.

My question is: is the only possiblity a gas leak or is there another reason that it would sound the alarm.

Batteries could be low or gassing. Do you have a pet?

They do fail after a few years. We have replaced two in 11 years.

Every time our little dog sleeps close to the propane detector, it goes off. I guess it detects "other kinds" of gas.

they do go bad after a while. same thing happened to me in my old tt. it was about $15 to replace-definitely worth replacing. a simple cut and splice of the wires was the level of difficulty.

When our fridges cooling unit started leaking the amonia smell had ours going off constantly. Check the back of your fridge and if there is a yellow stain could be your problem.
