Hmmmm, not the same now. I got into a 50 amp site, only a few trailers there that appeared to be long term and the office is right down by the lake about 1/4 mile from the campground.
Host met me immediately upon arrival and they have a campfire going 24/7 near the center of the campground for all to sit by and tell war stories.
Rented me a pontoon boat for an hour instead of the minimum 4 hours to take my 3 year old grandson out on. I knew he would get bored and a 30 minute rental would have been sufficient.

I'll be back in the area in about 2 weeks and take a look at it again. I just can't imagine how Grassy Pond could be turned around from a dive to something usable in a years time frame.
I was just at the Lake City (Valdosta) KOA and found the rest rooms were clean, large pull through sites and if you stay in the lower section you do not hear the traffic noise. There is a campground section next to the office and parking lot which is convenient for the free continental breakfast but it is more prone to traffic noise. The amusement park you are referring too is called Wild Adventures and the campground can offer discount tickets. I have spend up to 5 days at the campground but, there is not much going on in Valdosta outside of the amusement park. I have also stayed at the Eagle Roost but, it is more confining and smaller sites in my opinion. I am not a big fan of KOA's but this one and the one in Nashville, Tn. next to the Grand Ole Oprey are two of my favorites. Hope you have a great trip and enjoy the area.

It is located exactly on the opposite side of I75 from the KOA being mentioned here. It nice, clean, well maintained (men's shower don't flood) and nice folks too.
Ditto on Eagles Roost. It is a very nice quite campground with WiFi in the office area and shopping around the corner. Its own gift shop is intriguing also.
I checked with Eagles Roost and their pool closes late fall. I am still looking around at places to go. I figured at the KOA the kids could still swim, we could go to Wild Adventures and even drive over to the Okefonokee Swamp. I am not wanting to go to a huge tourist area as we thought of Pigeon Forge and that area but it is crazy that time of year. We thought about the beach but of course a lot of things are closed. So I was trying to come up with a place that was 3-5 hours away that would have some stuff for us to do.
I appreciate all the replies as it helps in the decision making.

Have you been to Charleston? Maybe be a bit further to drive, but plenty to do. That time of year they have Festival of Lights. I've never seen it, but I hear it is very popular. Most forum members prefer to stay @ James Island County Park CG and they do have a huge water park nearby but it is closed that time year - the waterpark that is. I noticed Mt. Pleasant KOA's pool is open year round. Besides the pool, you could do some nice sightseeing. Tour The USS Yorktown @ Patriots Point, then maybe drive over to the Festival of Lights @ James Island one evening, take a carriage tour around Historic Charleston, etc.
Enjoyed the stay. Breakfast was good, used the ymca gym (no charge), saw some rv's. Nice people. Only downside, which was mentioned earlier is, it really does sound like a 18 wheeler is right outside your window.
