Hi we're taking our daughter to see the Cleveland Institute of art in August, we live in the Buffalo NY area. I'm looking for a campground close to Cleveland that can handle a 40ft. fifth wheel. I really don't want to go to south if I don't have to. The CIA is in northern Cleveland.

Thanks in advance Handyman Dan

Not much RV camping in Cleveland proper. We stay in Geneva-on-the-Lake. Nice old tourist town on the lake 30 miles or so east of Cleveland. Several decent parks there with pull throughs.

We love Cleveland; don't let people scare you off. Kansas City, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Memphis, Philadelphia ALL have higher murder rates than Cleveland.

There is another thread floating around here recently that had more campgrounds listed. Good luck.

For northern Cleveland don't you need a boat kinda like east of Chicago?

The CIA is in the University Circle area near the Cleveland Clinic on the east side of town. This area is very congested and confusing to drive in if your not familiar with the area, do not attempt to take the camper down there. During the day the area is safe, just be aware of your surroundings as this part of town is on the edge of the getto. I work in this area all the time and never had a problem. I suspect you will be coming in on I-90 as Big Kahuna posted Geneva on the lake State Park might be a good choice to camp while in town as the is no camping as you get into the eastern suburbs. Have a good time in Cleveland. Rob

Yes it is a tough area. I was there in the late 70s and then again last Feb while a family member was at the CLinic. I was approached walking back to the hotel by a couple unsavory fellas. Well, my Dad was acutally and I was a bit behind and when I came up they decided that they needed to be somewhere else fast. THe cops just laughed and said they would run too. I did have my leather jacket on. NOw there is no campground close by but Geneva on the Lake state park might work for you.

We were in Cleveland two weeks ago and stayed at the Cleveland SE KOA in Streetsboro. We were about 30 to 45 minutes from down town Cleveland, Rock Hall area, via the freeway. Proved very convenient for where we wanted to be.
