If you have a Gas motor home Gas is the best.

If you have a Diesel motor home Diesel is the best.

The best is what is right for you!
However, with the price of diesel fuel, I would say gas.
Years ago, we were looking into new rig. By the time all the extra items required to have a diesel, it would not have paid.
I would still say if your dream class C is over something like 25,000 total combination weight then diesel is the way to go.

I went to your profile, I see you are looking to buy a motor home. I thought you had one and you did not know what kind of fuel to put in it....

Sorry....

You are going to get a lot of advise on this one.

You may want to post here how long you plan to keep this new rv and if you will be driving flat land or in the mountains.

Will you be towing??

Give more info. You will get some help.

As emblethem says to him it's a weight issue, I'm in 90 percent agreement with that statement.

Diesels cost over six grand more at the gate and go up from there. So if you looking at a average use, a weekend here a couple of weeks there and cost is a factor the gasser. If your going cross country a few times, travel long distances and putting 200,000 plus miles on it, like the comfort that diesels seem to offer then go that route.

Take a look at both, test drive them and you decide. Bill

I was going to go diesel because I was looking at a big Class A and the diesel models seemed to have more extras, better frames, suspensions, and on and on.
But when I realized I wouldn't be driving anymore than I do now, I couldn't justify the additional expense of going diesel.
Even before gas diesel fuel prices went up, the increase in MPG didn't cancel the extra cost of diesel fuel.
My opinion now is that diesel is only for really big motor homes, people who drive many miles a year, and keep their motor home for a long time.

What I have heard from a Ford dealer is, if you plan to drive it 25K miles per year or so, get a diesel, if less then get a gas rig.
95% of all Class Cs are gas. Not only do the diesels cost around $10,000 more, they cost more to maintain and repair, yes a diesel engine will last longer, like 500+ K miles,(maybe) and a gas rig maybe only 200K miles. So if you drove it 15K per year (avg is about 10K) it would take you over 13 years to put 200K on it.
I would recomend you get a gas MH.

I think you are looking at traditional sized class Cs. Unless you are a dyed in the wool Diesel fan there is almost no good reason to get a Diesel in these units. They weigh more, they cost a lot more, and the breakeven point is so far in the future you aren't going to get there. I have not checked the torque specs but I assume the Diesel has more torque and that will be an advantage for acceleration. If you like to drag race your MH or if you will always be towing a heavy trailer then the Diesel might have something to offer you while you are waiting endlessly to break even on the up front cost with fuel savings. Last I knew the HP ratings were virtually the same so there is no advantage to the Diesel there unless you will spend a large percentage of your time driving at high altitudes. The Diesels are turbocharged and will lose little HP with altitude. The gas engines are not turbocharged and they will lose HP with altitude.

If you were looking at one of the Sprinter based MHs like the View, then I would say you should get the Diesel option. The mpg rating of the Sprinters is significantly higher than that of the traditional class Cs. Having said that, I have never seen either the price or the mpg rating of the gasoline option in the Sprinters. So it might not make any more economic sense to get the Diesel in the View but getting 15 mpg in a decent sized MH is an opportunity I would not pass up if I were spending that much.
