I am looking into getting a dish for my TT. I already have service at home and just want to get a tripod and dish and take the receiver from home. Is there a certain dish that I need to get to match up with my receiver or are they all the same?

I just use the one l and b, that is with only the one eye on it as it is easier to align up to the one sattalite. Also i built a mout on the back of the TT and one on the toung of the trailer and just mount the dish on one of them.
Also when I enter the space we are going to stay I just look around where others are pointing and use rse the reciever and listen for the beep signale and the higher the beep and the louder the beep, the better the signal and I am set up in about 5 minutes and no no signal finder needed. works where ever we have been in the lower 48
. enjoy

depends on if you want to get locals and what location you will be in...
some locations require a 3 L&B for the locals, some locations only need one...

If I don't need locals what do I need? Do I need the three LNB satellite for locals? Does it matter what kind of receiver I have? Do you point them all in the same direction? Where can I find the setup I need? Don't say directv. They want to charge me 1300 dollars to get me setup.

I've been thinking about this also but we are not currently a sat service customer.
Are there any negatives to just having one of those automatic gadgets placed on the roof of the TT. I know nothing about them but I thought you just turn it on and let them do their sat finding thing.

When we had Directv installed about 5 months ago I told the installer what I intended to do. That was to use a receiver from the house when I travel. I asked him where the best place to get a dish was and he offered to drop me off one free the next time a customer dropped out of service. Got home one day and a brand new looking dish was sitting on the front porch with a note "good luck, call if you have any problems". What serivce. I bought a tripod at CW and a cable and I'm all set. I also bought an 18lb boat anchor at wallyworld and use that to keep it steady in the wind. Works great. I did buy a signal finder but have not used it yet as the directv system has the auto find with the volume turned up I can hear the beep a long way off.
Good luck....

We bought an "Emergency Kit" from Direct in Sep of 2006 for $80. It had a folding tripod, a round antenna with 1 lnb, 50' of cable plus 2 combo wrenches, 3 "long" stakes, a cheap compass, and even cheaper "bullseye" leveler along with a DVD on how to use all of this marvelous eqt. First time we used it was at home the next Mar on a Sat when our regular dish went out. It took me about 20 or 30 min, but it worked.
Next camping trip we loaded up the eqt, a receiver from a bedroom and an extra 100 ft of cable. It took me 15 min to get on the satellite. I have yet to fail in getting satellite service and we just keep taking that spare box with us.
Furtherest we have been from home is about 150 miles but we always got a signal in the 90 and up strength. Once it took me 30 minutes but I found that booger.
All the campgrounds we have been in have had many dishes out. Do a search on the forum and you'll get lots of info.
BTW we use an empty gal milk jug with small bungee cords to attach to the dish tripod. We fill it with water and have plenty of weight, then dump the water when we leave.

No way it should cost you anything but a dish. Your service is good from anywhere you can get a signal(cont. US, pretty much). I would get a single LNB dish as the locals can be very hard to get a signal on, the regular package you have minus the locals will be fairly easy to get lined up. You will need a clear veiw of the southern sky so a tripod and a cable is probably the best way to go. You won't be able to order PPV since you won't have a phone line hooked up but we all have to make some sacrifices.
Good luck
