I was thinking about trading to a bigger truck too, but with what they offered on mine, they can keep their truck! You'd think they'd be a little easier on you when you're trading a big truck for a bigger truck, but them dealerships have no heart. I'll be fine with my 1/2 ton. I'll probably just wait it out and just get me a used diesel truck sometime down the road. A person can own a VERY nice used diesel now a days for 15k-25k.

Spoken by somebody who obviously is clueless about how a dealership works. Let my 26+ years experience enlighten you.
Dealers are not heartless as you indicate. They need to make a profit to stay afloat, and to be there when you need your vehicle serviced or need parts for it. If they take your truck in on trade, they have to inspect it, fix what may need fixing, detail it, put a warranty on it, advertise it, and keep it on their lot until it sells. AND they have to buy your truck based on the current market, something (believe it or not) they have no control over. They have no intention of losing money as a result of this process, and any person who thinks it out would feel exactly the same way.
I am all for dealerships making a profit but come on now when they try to make $4-$5 grand on your trade in when they resell it,give me a break.I also know first hand,my older brother has been a car salesman for 20 years,I know excactly how it works.

Unless you're Siamese twins, your brother knows how it works -- not you.
Don,t take it personal now MR CAR SALESMAN.By the way how did you know my brother and I were siamese twins

FKA PSD, I use 12 passenger GM vans, powered by 6.0 gas) to take students out to job sites. I cannot fathom taking that many people on a long trip. Not only is the van crowded with 12 adults but where on earth do you put the luggage, on the roof? Not only that but the driver's position is probably the most uncomfortable of any vehicle I have driven. I am 5'11" and my legs and feet feel crammed up down there. The Excursion is far more comfortable to me.

The 12 passenger 155" wb passenger van is a 15 passenger van with one less bench seat and has twice the luggage space of the Excursion and I don't see any more crowding in my van than the Excursion. I have the 6-way power seat set for maximum leg room and it has plenty of leg room for me and I am 6'. I use my HD 4-bike rack to store a 32" wheeled luggage and 3-wheel jogger just like I did with the Excursion.

You mean...Those same problems that you vehemently denied existed, the whole time YOU owned that 6.0 Excursion? Those same problems, that you rolled your eyes at in many threads, and laughed off, saying your Ex was flawless, and would never have any of those problems?

LOL, its hilarious how those problems you denied all those years and never had, suddenly now *most* 6.0 owners are having them. Amazing how that changed once you sold yours, huh?

Were did I ever say I had problems with my 6.0. I have said I would not one without after the warranty expires and I am glad I sold it last fall at a good price because the warranty would have expired this week. BTW unless you are blind diesel fuel prices are much higher than reg unl gas prices and they are giving $20,000 off MSRP on new 2008 6.4 PSD F250-F350 trucks so used diesel truck prices dropped like a rock.

I take personal offense to that idiotic comment. I'll match my morals, ethics, and honesty to anybody else in any business you name.

I lucked out earlier this year. I traded in a Dodge Ram 1500 so my wife could get the used Pontiac G6 Coupe she wanted. I probably got at least $2,000-$3,000 more on the trade-in than I would get today.

The dealership had the car on the internet for about $4,000 less than the sticker price on the windshield sitting in the lot. When we said we wanted to buy the car--the salesperson disappeared to have the manager work up a deal--he never asked any questions.

He came back with the offer sheet at the sticker price. I put the printout of the internet ad on the desk and asked him for that price. He just looked at me dumbfounded. The trade-in value of the Dodge they were offering me was $4,000 less than the KBB trade-in value. I then showed him the KBB printout for my Dodge and told him that they would have to give me a much better price for my trade-in to do this deal.

They came back with the internet price on the car and raised the trade-in value of the Dodge by $3,000. I countered on splitting the difference of the $1,000 on the trade-in and they accepted.

Turninghawk, that was a $7,000+ difference in the transaction. Had I simply taken their first deal, they would have cashed my check and laughed all the way to the bank.

If this an example of the dealer's "morals, ethics, and honesty", I have no choice but to not trust them and make sure I know what each end of the transaction is worth before I ever step on the lot.

Auto/truck/RV dealers and airlines are probably the only industries that if you ask 10 people what they paid for the identical ticket or auto/truck/RV you will get 10 different answers.

People are people. If you sell something, you want to make as much as possible.

How many of you have sold a used car, starting at a high price then slowly lowering it until you finally sell it. I know I'm in that boat. And it's no different from a car dealership.

On any transaction with a negotiable price, buyers and sellers are ALWAYS at odds because one wants to sell high, the other wants to buy low.

Want to know how much your used car is worth?
Precisely what someone will pay your for it, and not a penny more.
Same goes for a new car that the dealership is selling. No one is forcing you to buy it...shop around and take your business to whoever offers you the best price.

Even if you think you have everything together before you step onto the lot, they can still get you. I was going to purchase a 1 year old used Malibu 2 years ago. The dealer advertised it on their web site at a certain price, and it was advertised on autotrader.com at the exact same price. I confirmed this same price on the phone with the salesperson. I then drove over there, checkbook in hand, ready to pay their asking price, listed on their web site, on autotrader, and also confirmed on the phone. As soon as I arrived, the games began. I had printed copies of the info from their web site and also from autotrader, and had the notes from my phone conversation with the salesperson. The manager threw it all back at me, saying it was my fault for not knowing that the price was $1500-2000 below retail value and that they could never sell the car that cheap. Yes, I left and took my business elsewhere, but I spent a lot of time there and got frustrated for no good reason.

Since that wasn't my dealership, what has it got to do with me? If I were in your shoes and presented with the first deal, knowing they were WAY off, I'd have gone to another dealer. YOU gave them the opportunity to salvage the deal -- I wouldn't have. Maybe by fate you'll have occasion to visit my dealership some day and we'll be able to show you how an honest, successful dealership does business.
