We have a Freightliner Sportchassis pulling a Teton Homes fifthwheel. For the past few months, we have started to notice a black residue on our white plastic items inside the coach; ex.: paper plate holder, napkin holder, paper towel holder, medication bottles, etc. I also notice it on my plastic grocery bags. It is generally noted after we have traveled a long distance and my husband has used the pac brake. It must be an oily residue because plain water will not remove it. I have to use Dawn dish detergent or Soft Scrub. We think that it is diesel fumes some how getting inside the trailer.
Does anyone have any ideas or has anyone experienced this situation?
I would think that you might be getting diesel soot inside somehow. You need to find out where it is coming in at. Do you leave a window open or a vent open when traveling?
This is IMO

This could be blow by gas. Check to see if you have an open tube under the engine that is oily. I believe you might be able to use a catch can to stop the flow. Is there oil under the truck? Is your exhaust directed away from the rv?

It's a new ultra low sulfer fuel after effect. Learn to live with it or seal the heck out of everything. Since the switch I have noticed a lot of residue on my toad.

We moved!! No more nasty neighbors, no more rotten parking. I am saving this picture just to remind myself how bad it was.
Thanks to everyone for their ideas. We were just at the Teton factory and had some sealing done to one of the Bigfoot levelers. Possibly, this is where the soot was leaking in. I'm watching everything to see if we have taken care of the problem! Sure hope so! My husband has also been thinking about changing the exhaust to come out the side of the truck instead of the rear.

Nope, not mildew! But, since we visited the Teton factory and they sealed the area around our front Bigfoot leveler, we have not noticed anymore black residue inside the coach. Thank heavens!
DH still thinks that he will have the exhaust, on the truck, switched to exit from the side instead of the rear.
