Trying to learn all about this 1993 Southwind by Fleetwood. The seller filled up the water tank. I wanted to drain it but when I open the valve labeled for the tank, it will drain a little and then stop. I left the water on at the sinks to prevent vacuum and allow it to drain.
It had pipe with plug coming out and down from the gate valve. I took that off but same thing. Guess I'll call a service guy here and see what they say.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Are you sure there's enough water in the tank to drain? Don't depend on what the gauge shows. Being the water has to go through the pump I don't think opening the faucets will help to break a vacuum if that's the problem. If the vacuum relief line is totally plugged then opening the filler cap would bypass it. I would run water in the filler opening and see if it drains.......... IMO......

We have a 1993 Southwind and drained the fresh water last month. I ran the water pump some to make it flow. I didn't run the pump the whole time because it is new and it was getting hot. It drained very slowly but I did get it drained.
As long as the tank is full you might as well take the opportunity to add some bleach and sanitize the tank before you drain it.

Jerry & Scrap,
Well this whole RV deal is getting on my nerves..Too much darn maintenance to worry about. I got enough of that with the Bobcat and attachments plus other vehicles.
Anyways I'll stop whining..HA!
Thanks for those ideas..I'll go do them in a little while and see what I come up with.
You said the water goes thru the water pump. Does that mean I need to pump the water out..There are 2 gate valves. One marked fresh and the other marked heater.

Run a hose into your filler hose and attach it to an outside auxiliary pump. I wouldn't suggest using the house pump because if you are trying to drain the entire tank that would really put allot of load on a small pump and could easily burn it out. They are not meant for constant usage....

I would bet you have either a kink in the drain line or a blockage of some kind (maybe some algae or something.
Inpect the hose closely. If you don't find anything obvious, run some very low pressure compressed air through it, no more than 20-25 PSI. If it was me, I would try to disconnect the drain hose from the tank to blow it out. Just make sure the spigot is open.

Snot certain yet but I stink the drain line comes right out of the tank near where the gate valves are. Tank right above..but yeah thats a possiblity too.
Gonna go work on this prob right now too.

Anyways I'll stop whining..HA! You bought a 1993 Fleetwood Southwind and thought it would be trouble/maintenance free? Sorry...but welcome to the Class A & Fleetwood family anyway...sure it used to drain properly, after 15 years who knows what's happening now...some fill instructions say to open the fresh water fill cap (when filling thru a direct hose connection) to prevent vacuum and speed up the fill process, maybe opening it will help drainage. Some don't have a gravity fill opening and only a hose connection fill opening, though.

I think its in pretty good shape for that year. 52.6k miles. runs fine, I tuned it up myself. But your right. Thang is, I didn't expect all these different systems to be there. From solar charging to levelers to refer to lp to gen. Well maybe I just didn't think realistically about it before the purchase.
Gonna go fuss with it rat now,,,
