I believe the only Fed park on OBX that has camping is Ocracoke Island. And as I remember it, there was no hookups.

If it's listed in the Yellow Pages, the government shouldn't be messing around with it.

Hi mtnman1989,

I was in Avon, NC at a private campground “Sands of Time” last week and we took a drive through each of the Federal Campgrounds except Ocracoke. Oregon Inlet is the most northern campground and is north of the Oregon Inlet bridge. This campground has 120 campsites in a sandy area very near the beach. There are no hookups but there is a dump station and water fill across the road. It has cold water showers. It looked like a nice campground to us. It closes for the season on 10/13/08.

The next Federal campground going south is Cape Point at the Hatteras Lighthouse. This campground has 202 campsites in a grassy area. It would be a long walk to the beach from this campground. Again there were no hookups but it looked like a nice campground. This campground closes for the season on 9/1/08.

The most southern Federal campground before the ferry to Ocracoke is Frisco. The Frisco campground was a beautiful campground in the high dune area next to the ocean. We were really impressed with the look of this campground. There are 127 campsites in this campground with no hookups. This campground closes for the season on 10/13/08.

There is also the Federal campground on Ocracoke (136 campsites) but you have to take a ferry to get there. This campground is the only one to take reservations. It closes for the season on 10/27/08.

Happy camping,

Mike

Ocracoke, Frisco, Buxton and Oregon Inlet. No hookup at any of these parks. Cold water showers also. they do have indoor flush toilets.

Thanks to all!!!

I have found them all again, marked them in my GPS software and we are ready to go.

We just need to wait now until it cools down some out there first.
