I have the option to buy a 1993 Chevy 3500 with a 6.5 turbo diesel, 117,00 miles RWD. Asking price is 10,000. I have test driven it twice now but I have been hearing some negative things about the 6.5 not having any towing abilities. Would like to hear from owners past and present. Thanks for any info.

I am finding retail prices to be more like 5k to 8k. Thanks once again.

Not to be mean (if you're serious) but $10K for that truck is ludicrous.

Get below $5K and then come back and ask the same questions.

that's a bunch of money for a 15 yr old truck, regardless of what engine it has in it.

I owned and towed with an '84 GMC Suburban that had the pre-turbo 6.5 liter diesel. I towed a 24' travel trailer for some time with it. It was not powerful and I was sometimes at full throttle just trying to tow into a modest headwind. I do feel that the price being asked is very high for a truck of that age and mileage. I suggest you pass on this one.

I looked at a similar Suburban on a car lot one day. The young fellow that talked with me actually convinced me to not buy it. He was an ex-marine that had a lot of experience with that motor while in the middle-east.

Bottom-line for him, it was a very under-powered motor (not turbo charged). The hummers he drove over-heated all the time. They came to really dislike the motor for a number of reasons. Told me to keep looking.

Have to agree that the price is too high, keep looking.

Don't think the guy was asking about price, but as far as the 6.5L is concerned, it is not a good towing motor. They had lots of problems over the years including cracked heads. Run, don't walk away from this deal if you really want a tow vehicle.

I recently picked up a dodge 2500 4x4 cc lb cummins auto for less than that, $10k for a 93 seems way high.
