Yes Airstream do tow easier. First is the shape and the low center of gravity. They also have independant suspension.

High winds and trucks passing have little to no effect on the trailer.

I own a 1979 31' Airstream and its my first TT so I have no experience towing any other brand. I will agree with the others that there is no real effect when semis pass and so on.

Airstream doesn't manufacture the trailer frame themselves, but they do have them custom built for their trailers. The axles on newer units are by Dexter, while olders ones use Henchens (sp?) so just off the shelf items there.

In addition to the obvious aerodynamic advantage, these trailers also sit a lot lower to the ground. Just look at any TT with a slideout and you have to go up 3 steps at least to get in the door. The low center of gravity is probably the real secret to success.

BTW I tow with a long wheelbase truck, which you probably already have, and I understand that a long wheelbase is important to stability. I just use the old-school Reese weight distributing hitch circa 1979 that came with the trailer and it works great once you take the time to tweak all the adjustments.

While our Airstream has worked just fine for us over the past four years we've had it, its probably only fair to say that other "boxy" trailers have a lot more storage space and the potential of more floor space with larger slideouts. If we ever snowbird or full time, I'd probably be shopping for another high end brand.

I've had three AS and currently have a Holiday Rambler. Yes, they really do tow better.

No complaints here. Good during windy conditions. 15 MPG on last 3 outings (25' towed by '99 Ford diesel @ 55-60 MPH).

You guys are awesome...!

Now we need to decide between the 28' Flying Cloud or the 30' Classic Limited..
If it were price only then obviously the $20,0000 less Flying Cloud would be the winner, but...We love the wood interior of the Classic But hate the white cloth walls....lol, Thanks for your help...Steve

We loved our 68 Airstream but outgrew it with 4 kids and 2 dogs! It was a dream to tow.
Personal preferences aside, along with StarStream and T@B the new Airstreams are the only interiors we've seen that look to have been designed this century.

Yes , they do tow better. I'm on my 3rd one now. 90 degree crosswinds don't effect them as much as it does on the "White Box" trailers. As you can tell by my signature I've drug them a few miles. My 1st one was a 73' model

Yes, Airstreams do tow much, much better than the traditional box on wheels. It's more aerodynamic and with the lower center of gravity I can't imagine what would pull better.
