I have been looking for a front hitch solution for quite some time, both for backing my trailer and for carrying a front cargo rack... I checked out the products from Bodiak and Curt, but both offer hitches that are bulkier and are more complex than I wanted. I was inspired by Bodiak's single-hook hitch, but they stick out pretty far (read: "ugly") and I didn't like that they clamped to the tow-hooks.
Ultimately I decided to build my own hitch(es) and mount them in place of the factory tow-hooks. Here's a few pic's of what I did;
Machined steel components before welding. (Factory tow-hook shown on upper left)
Completed hitch after welding and powder-paint.
Driver's side hitch installed.
I am still looking for design ideas for the front cargo tray. Ideally it would lock in both the up and down position. If you have built or seen any an interesting designs for a cool fold-up cargotray, please post a photo or two.
Cheers
