One time I had someone complain about my operation interfering with their tv but I wasn't home at the time!
LOL I have been acussed of causing the dog to run away. If I lived where that dog did I would have ran away to.

I use hamsticks on a mount on my car - the same antennas I use when mobile - except I unhook from my mobile radios use a barrel connector and run the feedline to my rig(s) on a table next to the camper nearby. Although it would be tempting to pitch a wire dipole into the trees, I don't think that would be safe in terms of the chance of a child wandering nearby touching the ends while I'm transmitting.
Saving up for a buddipole, which I don't think would offend anyone in the type of setting I camp in (not a private campground where everyone is lined up like sardines). As always, would check with the park warden if in doubt.

That's all we need, is to have someone trying to attract lightning and overpowering local TV channels. However, the campground management probably wouldn't every notice, cause they are always checking out campers walking dogs to make sure they pick up after them.

Psst, I'm the guy you keep hearing on Channel two yelling "CQ 6 meters!" in the middle of the ballgame.

Sitting in Gambel Rodgers SP in Florida a couple years ago with an
Ten Tech all CW rig, and a mobile 40 meter vertical
Hooked to the side of the POP-UP and a rod into the
sea water soaked ground. Every time I keyed the
neighbors Television would blink.
I had great contacts from across the Atlantic.
I did not transmit long I didn't want to get kicked out.
It's one fine campground.

Those are some great stories guys. I was thinking about using my Hamstick tripod and quick disconects along with some wire radials on the ground. It works great for remote portable work.
I've just never used it in a designated camp ground with a camp ground host or close nieghbors.
I also purchased the MFJ-16010 "random wire tuner." I'm going to buy some AWG 16ga wire with dark green insulation on it. If I tie a small fishing weight at the end and basically toss the end over a tall tree branch, it should be pretty much "out of sight."
I can then throw out a ground wire with perhaps tan or brown insulation on it and it would be concealed with the dirt. It's just a thought. I'm getting the camping bug really bad and I want to try out my portable gear with the tt.
Also, I could probably hide my Buddipole at the rear of the trailer of in between some dense brush/trees by our favorite camp site. If I use 6 meters and call "CQ" I'd bet that TV viewers of Channel 2 wouldn't have a clue as to where the RFI is comming from.
But, that's not like me. I don't enjoy disrupting anyone else's "camp" quality of life.
To me, camping in the remote deserts or forests in total silence at night and with a good 80M or 160M (using a long wire) contact, billions of stars, nobody else around for miles, a cigar and a cup of 100% Kona coffee is just pure relaxation!
Thanks for the feedback everyone!

I have three 'hidden' uhf/vhf on my rig, and a screwdriver in the back. I don't need to put up anything else. I usually don't broadcast what I'm doing. Most of the time I listen on phone bands, and operate/transmit CW on 80/40/20m .
I use Icom706MII and FT817 besides icom dualband uhf/vhf.
cheers
