Have any of you driven a Class B in Mexico? If yes, were the rough roads a problem? I'm worried about clearance on my '05 Roadtrek 210.

I drove my Sportsmobile for the entire Baja highway to Cabo San Lucas and back, in October 2003. The only problem then was the washouts from the huge hurricanes they'd had earlier in the year, but there were structures in place (better not call them bridges!) to get over them. Take your time and you'll be fine.

Does your 210 have the rear-end lift kit installed? I think they were optional from RT on some earlier models of 210, and standard on later ones. It'd certainly help, but might not be a cure-all. I've read on here of folks having trouble with the speed bumps / 'sleeping policemen' / topes in various RT's & other low B's, and I suspect that the 210 would be the worst of the RT's, at least without the lift kit.

That lift kit that Handbasket is talking about is some blocks between the axle and springs to get the van's ride height up. I'm kind of curious about other 210 owner's rear suspension, with or without the blocks: How much travel do you have? I'm going to put airbags on and take the rear spacer blocks off. This will improve my travel from the little over an inch it has now to two and a half to three inches! The 210 too much weight for the stock springs, Roadtrek should have put either stronger, more arched springs on, or airbags. The blocks are, well, a bandaid. An inch or so of travel is not enough. The roads in Mexico are definitely rougher than up here, I think you'll need the extra travel.

It very much depends on where you are going to drive in Mexico. I drove from Nogales down to Mazatlan in my B, and I have to say that the roads were as good or better than stretches I've driven in north Texas or other places on the prairies. The major differences was that there were often no shoulders and even the "toll roads" went through towns and that means "topes." A topic on which to do some research before driving in Mexico.

To look at the specifics of driving in Mexico, check that branch here on RVNet. Taking a B is easier than a big rig since the roads are narrower down there. Plus even the 'full' RV parks can often fit you in... and/or put you in the tenting areas.

Driving a B in Mexico is not different than driving anything else in Mexico . We have done the whole Baja and westcoast twice with out problems . The worst is watching for the topes there are many of them and no matter how careful you are you will find yourself going way to fast for an unexpected topes usually at the far edge of the town you are passing through. we have a 2003 200 roadtrek and have not bottomed out yet . however it may have a little more clearance than the 210.

In 2006, Jack and I traveled to Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point, Mexico) in our Roadtrek 190 and camped on the beach for 4 nights. We had no trouble making the trip and friends in a 5th wheel went with us. The roads were great, no trouble with clearance. This past April, the 4 of us traveled from Nogales, Mexico to San Carlos. We loved our stay in San Carlos, however, the ride which should have taken 5 hours, took 8, closer to 9, due to either poor roads or construction. Still, not a problem with clearance, but there is little to no shoulder, as Mumkin mentioned. We choose to return to Rocky Point & the Baja in the future.

We went down to Cabo San Lucas last year in a caravan. One of the rigs was a Rialta. I don't know of anything with less ground clearance. No problems.

Do watch out for the topes, sometimes they sneak up on you.
