On our 2004 HR Endeavor with 29k miles we are getting 9.7. This is all flat ground running in So. Florida running in 6th gear economy mode pulling a PT Cruiser with cruise set at 58 mph.

Just another thought. I have an 07 Tiffin Allegro Bay 35 TSB (3 slides) FRED chassis. It has a Cummins 6.7 ISB 340 HP engine with an Allison 5 speed transmission (Newer ones are 6 speed). Towing our Saab on tow dolly at 55mph going from Mass. to Maine (Round trip 650 miles)in pretty hilly territory we get a little over 10 mpg. We travel primary in the hilly areas in the east. I have 9600 miles on our Allegro Bay. If you're not full timing and don't need pass through storage, a Tiffin Allegro Bay with a FRED Chassis is one you should take a look at. We're very pleased with ours.

Here I foolishly go again...BUT...in view of the total HIGH cost of Class A diesel pusher RVing INCLUDING loss of investment return on equity invested whether free and clear or with monthly payments,routine necessary maintenance, repairs unexpected and expected, insurance premiums, storage costs, tire replacement reserve, fuel costs, tolls, campground fees, AND the BIG one...annual depreciation...why is it of any importance whether one gets 8mpg or 10mpg. The difference between one or the other is meaningless in view...if we are honest with each other...of the total costs to enjoy RVing! 300 mile trip @10mpg = $140.00 and @ 8mpg =$165.00. Last year our 32 days of enjoyable touring cost (see the above) $32,000. or $1,000. per day!

the miles per gallon are not very important when you figure the cost of a 30 day vacation.... sorry but i get tired of everybody asking me what are my mpg's...

Coach and tow are 33,000 lbs, have 2006 emission Cat C7. I drive 65-70 and have a 7.4 mpg avg over the last 19000 miles.

We recently took a trip to Washington DC from our home in Woodstock GA. We thought this would give us a good ooportunity to find the most economical speed to operate our 2004 40' Holiday Rambler DST with a 330HP Cummins. We were also towing a Jeep Wrangler. We found that if we ran the coach at 62 MPH we could average 9.4181 MPG. What amazed us was the mileage went down at 55 to 8.622mpg as the coach tended to downshift more often. We also found that using a fuel additive increased the mileage to 10.213.
Before this we usually ran the coach around 70 to 72 to stay with the flow of traffic. But at that speed we never got better than 7.8 mpg. We have seen the error of our ways!!!!
My recommendation is go with the diesel and find the torque/hp RPM statistics for your coach and try to run it in the sweet spot RPM where torque and hp are the highest and tweak it from there.

OK, IF (read big IF) MPG is that important to you (and it appears to be for many people), then choose an older (less stringent EPA standards), lighter weight coach.
I can tell you for a FACT, since we log every gallon that has gone into our coach that we have AVERAGED 11.3 MPG over the last 110,000 plus miles (we bought it with 30,000 on it).And that is with a calibrated speedometer.
And with recent modifications, we have run several trips (over 1,500 each) at over 12 MPG when not towing and 11.6 towing our Ford Escort SW.
BUT, it is a narrow body, reasonably aerodynamic, light weight (22,500 loaded-- unibody) and is driven with consideration of MPG.
YOU decide how important MPG vs other factors are-- it is important to us because we drive a reasonable number of miles (currently 140,000 on clock).
Early Cummins B, Cat 3116 and 3126 can and do return 10 MPG if driven reasonably.

It all depends: If I am in the east coast or the corn belt states I get as high as ten miles per gallon. Driving in the west where you drive through lots of mountains, I only get on average about eight miles per gallon of diesel. I have a 38' DP with the 3126-E Caterpillar engine. Towing a Honda Pilot EXL for a total weight of 33K lbs.
