Always wanting to be prepared, and having read many posts both here and on other forums, I need some info. Where are the shear pins (the ones that always seem to break) located on the slider mechanism and on the landing gear mechanism?
I figure once I know what may break, I can have replacement parts on-hand; especially since these have got to be cheap and a real hassle to deal with the results if you don't have replacements.

I've got a little box in my tool chest with light bulbs, cotter pins, spare break-away switches, shear pins, coat hanger wire, assorted bolts with lock nuts, different metal screws, nails, a couple of small rolls of wire, Gorilla Tape, super glue, 2 sided foam tape, duct tape, silicone glue tubes, Eterna Bond...etc. Ya never know! I also keep a First responder Police type First aid kit, just in case!

At one time we had a Forest River fifth wheel which has the most common slide outs.
On this fifth wheel, the shear pins were on the shaft that went from the ram to the other side of the slide to the other drive. It is in clear view.
It is a bolt with a nut on it...and yes it did break and I had extra.

I suggest calling your frame manufactuer (most likely Lippert). They sell repair kits that come with shear pins and gears. My 2007 Fuzion had a problem with landing gear and it was the gears that stripped. Kits all pins and gears - it cost about $25.00

The motor drives one slideout arm and it is connected to the other by a square tube with a small bolt through it. That is what shears. I replaced mine with a grade 8 bolt. The factory only puts in a grade 2, (cheaper)

I would assume the reason for a grade 2 bolt is so it will shear before it tears everything up. That is the purpose of a shear pin. Never replace a shear pin with anything heavier than intended. That is just asking for bigger headaches.

I would second this good advise.

Actually it isn' a shear pin, it is a means of connecting a square hollow tube to a round shaft.

I am not sure if most landing gears are similar but I did purchase some grade 8 1/4" bolts and nuts about 1-1/2" long from HomeDepot. The 1-1/2" in length was sufficient to replace both the landing legs and slide out bolts/nuts should one break in the wood. Hope this helps.
