Now that have my DPTv converter boxes installed and working, sorta, how do I tune the batwing antenna. Before I simply tuned the station and rotated the antenna for best picture. Now, I put TV on channel 3, turn on the box and select channel with the remote for the box. Instead of a fuzzy picture, I get a dialog box telling me the signal is weak. I know, that channel may not be digital, yet, but do I need to rotate the antenna and how do I know the endpoint?

If you don’t have a pass though converter and the station is not digital than you will get no signal.
Aim up by Seattle and no one transmits digital yet.
If I know that I know now I would have bought a pass though converter.

Cliford. Sorry about that, DPTv IS a pass thru box. Found out, however, that by turning OFF the box, the tuner on the TV works as before, ie, like no box was there.

On my Zenith DTV boxes, I have a button on the remote indicating "signal". I hit that button and a slide bar appears on the TV screen. By rotating the tv antenna incremently, I can make the slide bar signal indicator move from "bad" to "good" signal. In short, yes, moving the antenna slightly will improve or cause to deteriorate, your digital signal.

Digital signals are distance related and omni directional just like analog, so you twist the attenna just the same. My box has a signal strength meter so it makes it a bit easier to "tune it in".

I went to the Winegard seminar at the Winnebago GNR a couple of weeks ago. The batwing antenna receives analog signals off both sides of the antenna, but receives digital off only one side. Unless you know the direction of the digital stations you have to do scans with the digital converter with the antenna in 90 degree changes then tune to a digital station and use the digital converter signal meter to fine tune the channel.

Do all boxes have a slide bar signal indicator?

want-a-be,
Good question and one I can not answer. My Zenith DT901 box's do, and have analog pass-through as well.

Well, there are basically 3 ways two are the same but reversed

First turn clockwise (Anti-clockwise) till you loose signal, Remember spot
Then turn anti-clockwise (Clockwise) till you loose signal, remember spot

Park 1/2 way between the L.O.S. points

Method 2 Turn for MINIMUM signal strength, turn 90 degrees, park

NOTE many digital converters do have a signal strength meter feature

Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

I would like to have a 'copy' of that seminar. I have NEVER heard of an antenna that will receive analog on two sides and 'digital' on only one side. I think you are getting hyped. BTW I'm into radio-rf signals all the time. My batwing doesn't know the different between analog and digital. JMHO.

cheers
