Whew, I just made reservations for TopSail for June '09 and I'm hoping the price of gas goes down over the next year. I know it's a slim chance, but if I have to cancel then I'm only out $10. I estimnated @ $4/gal, our fuel bill for this trip will be ~$550 (I over estimate everytime). In the big picture of things, we could have gone back to Myrtle Beach, SC (a lot closer for us) and spent ~$150 less (the higher camping fees offset the lesser fuel consumption), but we don't like going to the same old places every year - after all, we started RV'ing to travel.

I'm really excited about going to Topsail after hearing all of the rave reviews. We booked site #71 which was not our first choice, but from the pictures I've seen and looking at the maps available, it's a good location for us.

I guess I better start saving now...

Now seriously would $150 bucks keep you home. Last year going to Florida and back from Toronto cost us approx $1400. This year it might cost us $1800. I do not think I will stay home for the difference in cost of $400.

I agree with Jack/Diane,, its a holiday afterall, I mean we could stay home and save the money and camp here at the lake, not quite the same. Gas is not going to go down, only up.It doesn't seem to have stopped anyone around here.

Gas is going down because lots of people are cutting back on vacation travel and reducing trips around town. Fuel consumption in the US has dropped significantly since gas edged beyond $4 a gallon. It reach a higher here of $4.44 a gallon and was down to $4.12 today. We have canceled several longer trips and fuel cost was a huge part of the equation.

No, $150 probably wouldn't hold us back (we'd just cut out some other stuff), but my fear is that gas will shoot up higher next summer and that $150 will end up being more like $300 and that would make us change plans.
