Just did a Halibut charter out of Valdez and had both the fillets and cheeks. We were disappointed in the cheeks, they were a little stringy.
The meat was to die for!

I took a Halibut charter out of Ninilchek, and had a blast. The crew notched a symbol in the tail to indicate who caught the fish. Then, they cleaned and filleted the fish, and we each took possession of the ones we caught. Cheeks included. I too thought they are overrated, no tastier than the rest of the meat.

I did hear later that the charters out of Homer are cheaper, but nonetheless, it was a great time and I would go out of Ninilchek again in a heartbeat.
