Okay - I'll admit, I'm challenged when it comes to some electronics....so I'm asking ---- as the guys in familyh won't ask (I think it's a guy thing).
We're interested in getting a satellite for the TT. We currently have directv at home. Can we take one of the receivers from the house and hook it up to the TT? TT has is wired for cable. If so, how do we do it? And where do we get another dish thingy?
Thanks.......from the guys in the family that won't ask!!! AND from the wife that is laughing hestrically while they are talking about hooking one up!!!

Sure you can take your receiver from the house, no problem. Using the existing cable connection on your TT will not work unless you modify the connections at the amplifier. Run a cable through the window or do a search on satellite modification.

You can use your Directv receiver and remote. Camping World has the satellite antenna (Directv), tripod, satellite finder on sale now. The antenna comes with 25' of cable. If you have the single Tv connection hook up in your camper with the amplifier button for using the roof top antenna. Remove this connection plate and install one that has 2 tv connections, one for cable or satellite and one for the roof top antenna. On the back of the single hook up is a 3 cable connection, disconnect the one labled cable and connect it to the cable or satellite connector on the 2 connector plate. Connect the other two cables as they were connected on the single connection plate. Now, you can go from the cable or satellite connector to your receiver and from there to your TV. To watch Tv with the roof top antenna, disconnect the Tv cable for the receiver and connect it to the roof top connector punch the amp button and you are good to go. Hope this helps you a little.

Yes you can use your reciever, get a second dish and keep it in the TT then take the reciever with you. The reason the satellite will not work with the cable jack is because of the amplifier, it will not let the sat signal through it, not sure why but it wont. I looked into re-wiring it and decided to run another cable instead. We never use the outdoor tv jack and we converted it to a sat in jack and it works great. You can also just run a cable through a window.

One problem is network tv (NBC, CBS et-al) will be lost if you are too far from home (anywhere from a few miles to a few hundred miles, normlly about 200 miles, depends on which direction)
Think of a spotlight shining on your house.. That is a "Spot beam" Ok, it shines on a lot of houses, but if you are "in the dark" you are... Well, In the dark.
Now I"ll let others explain the RV waiver that gets you Distant Network service

You will still be able to get the cable channels, just not local, You may also need a small signal meter( about 30 bucks). I got my last one at Radio shack, good luck and happy camping. Oh, bought my dish on ebay about 5 years ago, still using it and I bring my receiver from home..carried it all the way to texas and used it

You can also use a Y switch to switchably route the cable from the outside jack, to either the amplifier or the satellite receiver.
