We are staying at Highlander RV Park in Lake City, CO. A really first class operation.

We had just done a ride up about 15 miles on gravel roads looking at old mines. As we came back into town I could feel the truck pulling to the right and pulled over. Yep, flat tire! Rock puncture. (Glad it was not a lot of miles back in the boonies!)

I have hurt my back / leg and not in a position to change this myself and was not sure what to do.

I called Don at Highlander to see if there was someone who could come change it and then repair it. This is NOT a big town!

He said he would get right on it - although I know he was very busy.

In a little bit up rolls Don with a full air tank in his pickup. He said we just had to get enough air into it and then make it about 3 blocks where he has talked to the guys and they will fix it.

We put air in and I got down there and Don waved and went on his way. They finished a small job and immediately fixed the tire.

About 20 minutes and $20 later we were all set.

Can't say enough good about Don and Diane here - but this was certainly was beyond the call of duty. Of course, Don would not accept a penny or anything for his efforts.

Of the 133 RV Parks, Campgrounds, etc that we stayed at over the past few years, Don and Diane are our favorite owners / managers. They just "get it" and it comes very naturally for them. There are a lot of good folk out there, but I just think they're a cut above.

One of our first RV trips was to Colorado Springs. This was before I knew about this forum, so we were really travelling blind. Picked an RV site, which was Garden of the Gods. We were not pulling a toad at the time, and intended to rent a car. We got there on Sunday, and could not get the rental until Monday. I asked a gentleman who was working outside the office if there was a grocery store within walking distance. He said "Sure, about four blocks away." He then tossed me the keys to his Chevy Yukon. Turned out he was the camp manager. Been a few years since then and unfortunately I don't remember his name, but I definitely remember the incident.

It was my friend, Coach, who posted above that told me about Highlander. We have wanted to come here for years but it has not worked out.

We have now gone past him on number of RV places stayed. And agree with him; Don & Diane are a cut above.

Having experienced Lake City for MANY years (friends lived and currently live there) I think you'll find even the other residents of that town to be as friendly and helpful....IMHO, of course

I love the town and area - we have friends there as well.

To be noted though, in the 20-30 minutes we sat alongside the main highway in the vehicle with a flat tire not one person driving or walking by (keeping in mind we had out of state plates) stopped to ask about helping.

They must have all been tourists like us.

You have to break the ice. We got out to hitchhike and were smiling and joking around with each other and the second car stopped cause we looked like nice people in trouble. When we got dropped off in Beatty, Nevada local residents loaned us a bicycle and parts off their own trucks and treated us to dinner to get us going again. We just tried to be gracious, friendly and appreciative.

Never heard of Highlander RV park or Lake City before but you can bet I'll be adding it to my list of places to visit! Sure nice to hear that there are some really nice folks still out there!

Glad you had great help from those nice folks, but we find campground owners/managers are usually generous and helpful. There are those exceptions we'll never see again, but I can almost understand their attitudes, given the tough life they generally lead.
